slugs in the .410
« on: February 11, 2005, 10:32:25 AM »
I've never been much of a fan of deer hunting with a .410 slug but one of our managers lets his kid do it. He says he has taken 3 deer with it and all 3 were droped in ver short order. The last one, "in his tracks" as he says.
  Have ya'll had any experience with slugs in these or reloading slugs for them?
  What about shooting a .45 Colt in the .410 as a slug? Since they go the other way around in Contenders and such?
  Thanks,
    Rusty <><

Hi Rusty;
      This subject has come up on here before but it is worth repeating.  Don't try to shoot a .45 in a .410.  Some older guns chambered for .45 or .44-40 were capable of firing .410 in them. But, these guns were chambered for the .45 or .44-40 and designed to handle the higher pressure of these rounds so they could easily handle the lower .410 pressures.  A .410 is not designed to handle the pressure of a .45 or a .44-40. NEVER try to shoot these in a .410. At the least you could seriously damage your gun. At the most you could be seriously injured.
Thanks;
Tony

45 Colt in a 410, don't try it.   That's trying to push a .452 bullet down a .410 bore, something's got to give.

Once again, DON"T DO IT.

Unless you have a barrel made for shooting both, like a 45 Colt/410 Survivor barrel. Just remember to take the choke out while shooting the Colts.
