Does anyone know of any club or orginization in the northeast arkansas area that hosts field trials for the pointing dog breeds?  I am also interested in building live traps for pigeons if anyone has any ideas.  Thanks famousamos

Don't know of anything in the NE part of the state...but I know there are dog trials just a couple of miles north of I40 past Lake Conway, just out of Mayflower.  In fact, the place I remember was just a couple of minutes away from the Game & Fish Shooting Range in Mayflower.  Call down to the range and ask for Jerry (rangemaster)...he might know who you might contact locally, at Game and Fish, or in your part of the state.

If you still can't find something out, I'll be in LR on business in a couple of weeks...I can ask around for you at that time.  Just let me know if you need some more info/help.

Contact the AKC and/or American Field. Both can be found on the internet

I looked on your profile for an e-mail address and didn't see one. Pigeons trap's are easy to build. Wire on all side's and opening's on all sides. Above the opening's hang a set-up of swinging bob's that open only in. After you set the trap, hook the bob's UP and leave them up. Then put feed inside, in the middle of the trap and sprinkle a bit around the trap and the opening's. Leave it set that way until the bird's get used to eating and then drop the bob's down. They will push the bob's in to get to the food. I'll go out to my pigeon house later a take a photo of a set of bob's. Hard to explain them but easy to make.

By the way, you'll catch it from some people for training with pigeon's but the are the best, no make that BEST, bird you'll ever get to train a bird dog. Nothing bad ever happen's on a game bird that way, the pigeon's keep comming back for more and changing to game bird's is a simple step. Two big big things to remember, pay attention to what your training and never, NEVER, set your dog up to fail.

This is what the excluder on my coop looks like   in fact I got them from Stromberg's http://www.strombergschickens.com/  . I make traps from all 1X2 rabbit wire and "J" clips also from Stromberg's . I have one excluder, also made from wire, in the end and a door in the top to remove the trapped birds. One thing to remember with trapped birds is that you will always have to keep them as "prisoners” if you release them they will likely go back to their original roost. Sometimes after a few years a captured bird will re-adjust to your coop but mostly not. The birds you raise from eggs will always be aligned with your coop though. I have two coops with 18 pair in each one is my prison where I keep captured birds to breed stock for my other coop where those birds become “homers” and also breed other “homers”.
Love those .41s'

That is a great looking set of bob's. I made mine with threaded rod nut's and heavy wire welded to them. These are the ticket!

I see I said "these are the ticket", I was refereing to the bob's in the above post, those are nice! Might add here, if you put these on a coop, and you should, be sure to put some kind of predator door on also to lock it shut at night. I like a separate door outside so that a determined predator won't ruin my bob's trying to get in.
