Howdy ya'll

I've a hankering for a VZ24 Mauser. Reread a good article the other night in Backwoodsman magazine on this particular Mauser but no surplus dealers have any in stock that I can find. Anybody know of a dealer that has them. I've got my C&R license so that's not a problem.
Was wondering how the VZ24 compares too the Yugo 24 as far as accuracy. Anbody have any experience with both rifles? Or for that matter which is the more accurate of the Mausers excluding the Swedish ones. Nothing against the Sweds it's just I want to shoot mil-surp ammo that's cheap. Thanks

I have one 8mm Turk left that is a keeper great looking bore and it headspaced perfect. Before that I had several others. I have a 7mm Spanish also. While they shoot good they do not even compare with a Swede. IF I had to take one Mauser over any it would be a Swede. The accuracy overcomes the ammo cost and reloading for it compares it to cheaper surplus. I found in my 8mms the surplus ammo shot for crap not accurate at all. It took again like my Pole 44 good ammo to see what it was capable of. Jim

Andrew - I have both a VZ-24 and a VZ/CZ 24-52. The VZ-24 was a WWII bringback and had the stock bubba-tized and the cooling steps belt sanded out of the barrel - the gunnie who did the barrel work must have had one too many beers while he was sanding down those steps, as the barrel looks bent or crooked from the outside but is straight on the inside - and she shoots very, very well with S&B 196 grain softpoints.

The VZ 24s and the Yugo 24s are the same rifle - one was just renamed after the national name change, I think.

The VZ/CZ is a VZ24 that was re-barrelled in 1952 and then stored. I have just finished getting the cosmoline out of it (been sittin' in my closet fer 2 yrs) and she sure looks good (barrel is really nice) and the bolt is smooth.

These rifles are the large ring Mausers. The Yugo 48/48A is a slightly shorter version of the 98 (shorter by about a 1/4 inch). I also have one which is very accurate and seems to be just a bit lighter and handier than the VZs.

Check out the Shotgun News - they regularly advertize dealers and distributors who sell both the VZ-24 and the Yugo 48/48A. HTH. Mikey.

The VZ24 was made in Czech. Starting hunting one of these after rereading that article and remebered another that raved about how accurate they were. Anyway once I started looking nobody has them right now. I usually order from SOG but they are out, have a order in for more but have no idea when they'll be getting them. I checked Samco, Aim, J&G, Inter Ordance and a couple more. Everyone has the Yugo's but not the VZ24's made in Czech.
Since ya'll seem to have had such good luck with the Yugo 24's I'm starting to think I might give one a try. Seems ya can't have enough military bolt action rifles now can ya. Thanks for the help ya'll.

AIM had the VZ24s for a long time. Now they have the 24/47s. Just got two of those in last week. They are the cheaper one with the mismatched handguard wood. Both bores look ok, but no like my k31s! Overall they were clean but the firing pins dropped in slow mo, litereally. Took the bolts apart and cleaned about an ounce of thick red grrease out of them and now they are fine.

My first Mausers and am looking forward to shooting them. Will give a shooting report later.

I just bought a Yugo 24/47 (imported by Numrich) at a gunshow today. I was surprised that only one dealer had any! Plenty of Russian capture K98s, Brit Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, Bosnian M48s (only $95), etc. And, he only had two 24/47s; one with matching handguard and one without.

Needless to say, I bought the matching wood. Paid $160 cash OTC. It's like-new with accessories (except the bayonet scabbard that had some blued-over pitting). Stock need work too. It appears new/unblemished but in need of a final sanding and proper finish.
