slipping out of geer?

I have an old 35 johnson that was slipping out of gear.  Same sort of thing but mine just slipped and caught again every so often.  It has to do with the shifting rod that runs down to the lower unit.  A mechanic adjusted it but said it's worn and the problem will return and then I'll need parts installed.

The forward gear and dog will need to be replaced. The contact surfaces get rounded and will not hold ingagement. The repair isn't very complicated, if you're handy with tools and get a clymer type manual you should be able to do it yourself.
