Author Topic: how many people would like to see the remington nylon 66 (Read 2043 times)

i would like to know how many other people would like too see the nylon 66 sold again? and what new colors would you like to see it in? i think they would sell alot more of these than the 597. if you find 1 here in tennessee it will cost you $175 or more if you can beat the coonhunters to it. every time i see 1 in the paper and call they always have it already sold. i like the black ones but would like to see it in grey or blue. i am going to let this run for awhile and write to the president and let him know how we feel about its return.

I think some one was making a copy a few years ago, granted a copy leaves a lot of lee way in quality. The 66 was one of the first guns I shot with dad as a kid. Tough to anchor a scope on a sheet metal top cover. Great gun however. Grandson doesn't know I have a new one put away for him. It would be great to see them again, how about a browning T-bolt without salted wood?

I've been looking for another for some while now but can't find a decent quality one at even remotely fair price around here. Sure wish I hadn't let all of the ones I've owned get away. My oldest son has the last one I had and never uses it, maybe I should permanently borrow it like he does some of my guns. :-D

While I've never seen one of them I'm told they made some in Remington green. Now that would be nice. Some one on here, maybe Lawdog has kinfolks with one he was gonna try to convince to sell to me but so far they've not decided to turn loose of it. Family heirloom kinda deal. The black/chrome least appeals to me but I'd take one just to have a nice Nylon 66 again if one came along.

From what I have heard the Copies are pretty good. Might be a option.

I think they made one similar in a lever action. I think it was green. That would be an interesting gun to have.

I still have the one my Dad taught me to shoot with. I got some good quality 3/4 inch rings and was able to mount the Bushnell Banner 4 power scope on it that we never could get to stick with the rings that came with the scope.

This one works well, but even if it didn't I would never sell it. And if they became available again I think I would need a couple to teach grandkids to shoot. Darned things just worked.

I have a brown one that will empty the tube magazine as fast as I can pull the trigger and has never jammed. I had a green 77 that I understand was made for Kmart only one year. It had a clip mag and I have yet to find one of those that I would call reliable.
There are two black silver 66's in a pawn shop here in Missouri. The number is 660-646-pawn. They were asking around 200.

No thanks. I bought one when they were still in production. With the rear sight not mounted to the barrel, I never could get it to hold zero. They also have a very slow cycle time. A buddy of mine could shoot faster with an original Win. 62, holding down the trigger! :roll:

I had a couple and they were all right for plinking, but I did not like mine for squirrel hunting because if you put any lateral pressure on the stock, it threw the shot off over an inch at 25 yards. I loved the weight and handiness of the gun, though, and if a new one came out with a more rigid stock, I believe I would have to get me another one.

At one time I had every combination of these--black and chrome (Apache), Brown (Mohawk), Green, and the lever action. I even had several of the CBC guns. All great shooters. The lever action was crap--the entire cam was nylon, and tended to jump gears, but still shot okay. The semi-autos were great. I got a lot of squirrels with those guns. I sold mine off a couple of years ago, just kept one Mohawk for old times' sake. I see them at gunshows here in Ohio for around $135.

The FIE/CBC copies were exact replicas. CBC (Brazilian company) bought all of Remington's tooling when Remington decided to stop making them.

While I wouldn't mind seeing these rifles come back, if Remington made them they would be asking $300!!!

With the luck my father and now I have with my original I would pay it!

My Marlin was enough to nearly get me to quit shooting, all the jamming and such. And my 10/22 is completely reliable, highly accurate, and has lots more than $300 tied up.

I have one I have had since 1965. Its an Apache Brown and still shoots as well or better than my Ruger 10/22. You couldn't ask for an easier shooting gun. If they ever bring it back, I want a black and chrome one. Steve 48

I have three of them, 2 of the 66 brown, and 1 of the 77 brown never have had any trouble with any one of them. Had some of the K- mart green 77s but sold them off. When K-mart closed them out they were $69.00 a piece and as I recall I bought three of them.

I have a mohawk Brown my father bought me in the late sixties or early seventies. I also have an apache black I bought for my stepson in the eighties. It's hard to describe how tough they are, and how much these have been through. Maybe it's the sentimental thing, but I wouldn't take anything for either.........

If I remember right it was a Glenfield 60. When it shot it was fairly accurate. Most of the time it was jamming and stovepiping. I tried every cleaning/lubing scheme known to man and never got it to work well.

Good memory, pinduck! I got 1 of the 77's on that close out sale . It's never been shot.
My dad has the black & chrome 66, I put a lot of rounds thru that thing when I was a kid.

I have a Marlin 30-30 lever gun that I will never part with. It is reliable and accurate and deer hunting wouldn't be the same without it. But Life is better without that 60 autoloader.

If I hadn't had such good luck with my Nylon 66 I would have given up on autoloaders.
