win stock questions
« on: February 12, 2005, 06:58:14 AM »
I have 3 win M70 classics(pre `64 control feed)2 are long actions and one is a short action. 2 of them are switch barrel guns witch brings me to a stock question.
I had read somewhere that with some modification a push feed stock can be used on a control feed action. does anyone have any exp. in this?or is familiar with both actions?I know there is aftermarket stocks available for the L.A. but haven`t found one for the short action, all of mine are synthetic stock but my issue is primarily with the short action.
it has been reworked and has a 5 taper shilen in .243 ackley
also have the factory .243 bbl as well as a factory .308,both make for nice walking guns but sure look funny in the opened up bbl channel.
as you know the factory synthetics are marginal at best and although i would like to pillerbed not sure if it is worth it with my current stocks.
and if it could be made to fit comfortablely though not a perfect fit that may be ok,but would like to know upfront before investing, these are field guns that shoot great, not showpieces! lol

JBS,

If you are asking whether a push feed or CRF stock could be fitted to one or the other, certainly, yes.  There are no differences that can't be addressed by the judicious use of sharp chisels, barrel channel scrapers, and bedding compound.

The only thing I wouldn't reccomend, is trying to fit a long to a short, or vice- versa.

lol sorry didn`t mean to imply that i wanted to fit a long action in a short action stock or vise verse.
internal work is not such a problem, just concerned as to how closely it would fit and if there would be large external gaps in the action area

I think that the differences are minor!
