I just purchased a 99 model 1894 in .357, but the gentleman didn't have the owner's manual for it. I've heard they list some ammo restrictions in the manual, ie minimum and maximum lengths.

Can somebody look in their manual and tell me the gist of what it says?

You could call Marlin at 1-800-544-8892 and they could tell you, would probably even send you out a new owners manual.

Marlin would probably send you a manual but I doubt it would tell much about the ammo you should shoot in it. I am very interested in knowing if the .357 Marlin will cycle a Keith type bullet which has a long OAL. From memory, I think I had to seat my Lyman #358429 170grn to a OAL of 1.660" to catch the crimp groove, for my revolver. My 1894S in 44 mag will cycle the 245grn #429421 Keith type with a OAL of 1.690-95" just barely. Wish I could find a good used .357 lever with ballard rifling. I've been eyeing the new 1894C with 18 1/2" barrel and ballard rifling but they wanted $350 plus tax last year for it. I'm afraid to ask what they want this year.

My 357 lever shoots any 357 and any 38 special EXCEPT wadcutters. If you try wadcutters you get to learn how to disassemble the lever and bolt.

Have read on other forums that there is a minimum and maximum warning concerning the 1894c only, but nobody gave the details.

Happened to luck up on finding a used version. Made up for me losing out on a 42 year model Winchester in 32ws the other day. Was out pawnshopping, ran across the Winny in about 85% condition for $250, but wanted to think about it some. Went back the next day to get it, and it was gone. Teaches me not to go pawnshopping without money in my pocket.

As for prices on new Marlins, three different dealers locally has quoted me from $390-$399. One dealer had two in stock, the other two dealers would order it.

Sorry to hear of your missed deal. The two shops that I priced mine in didn't have one in stock but said they could get one in a day or two.
