22 rimfire sportster refinished
« on: February 12, 2005, 01:49:32 AM »
hi all -

i mentioned earlier i got my spare 22 rim fire sportster back from the factory last week. they reblued it, etc. etc.

i noticed they installed a smooth action release (?) lever. the old lever had some stamped lines on it. now it has a nice smooth and shiny button to release the barrel. i like it.

it's going out for it's maiden voyage into the woods tomorrow for some target shooting.

anyone  else have this new smooth button ?

SG, on a deal I just completed the 12 gauge TDC involved came with a smooth lever/button. I am not so sure if I like it or not, I am tending towards not liking it. My initial reaction was and is that it looks cheap, as if they eliminated a step to save money (could it be?). It may just be that I am used to the lines on the top of the old ones but this smooth button does looks cheap to me, Oh well, it opens the gun, as to liking it's looks, time will tell....<><....

Well I just checked an older NEF shotgun I have (NA198xxx), it has a smooth topped action release also, so I guess they are not new!!....<><....

scattergunner, how much did they charge to reblue the frame, because I don't really care for the parkerized frame either?

i could of swore that the button had lines on it before i sent it out. i can see how they would help if things got slippery, but it does look nice all polished up.

i think the re-bluing job was $15. originally, i wanted case colors but they will only do that on shotgun receivers. that price also included reblueing the barrel which had tool marks around the scope rail screw holes. that is a real peave with me. it seems that i have sent back almost every gun i bought to have the tool marks around those screw holes cleaned up.

sorry to say, i didn't get to shoot the newbie 22 rimfire sportster today. maybe next weekend !

SG, when your rimfire frame was refinished was it actually polished a bit and reblued?.  Or perhaps was it finished in the same matte or bead blasted finish? That is a great price for the matte finish but even better if they actually polish it (even a bit) and blue the rimfire frame and not just finish it with the beadblasted or matte type finish....<><....

hi mspret -

the receiver now looks like my ultra varmint's. it had to be polished, the old dull parkerized or painted finish is gone and has been replaced with a deep polished luster. the barrel looks good too.

i have no comparison here because i sent all my rimfire handi's back for reblueing and to clean up the tool marks and burrs around the scope rail screws.

it's sunday night, i'm going back to relaxing on the lazi-boy watching the tube and scratching the dogs ear !
