What does everyone think of the 204?

I have a 204 and LOVE it.  Best shooter I've ever had, I just want to know what everyone else thinks about this round.
Accuracy doesn't come from the arrow, it comes from the Indian!

My .204 Ruger is a 26 inch Encore!  The scope is a Tasco 6-24X42 with mil dots and it also wears a Harris bipod!  This is a very accurate combo!

I really love it!  I'd like to get onto a coyote or woodchuck with it to see what it will do!  Yesterday I shot a pigeon at 115 yards and it just came apart!  I like the fact that you can see your "hits" through the scope!

Mine is a 23" Contender....won't get a chance to really break it in proper like til mid March. I can already tell it will deliver a brutal blow to the prairie dog towns.
So far its been strictly a fire form /load development proposition. I am interested in what loads work well that can be done in volume.....several hundred at a time. Any ideas ?

What I'm wondering is how the .204 will work as far as called in varmints go.  Shots average around 75)+/-) yards so I'm not worried about long range just how pelt friendly the .204 is.  Ruining a $50.00 pelt gets expensive real quick.  Lawdog

Lawdog,

I don't think you need to worry about the 204 exiting a coyote. They make one heck of an explosion but they will very seldom exit.just like the17 rem. So far i havent had one mess up the pelt. If you can get them into the body of a yote he will be where you shot him. The shock effect is so great the coyote will be dead before he hits the ground......Joe........

I have killed 5 coyotes with mine so far. It is an A-Bolt Hunter with a Zeiss Conquest 3 X 9. I did have one ruined pelt when I shot too far back and it went thru the stomach and made a BIG hole going out. The others just had one small hole going in and the whole inside was grape jelly.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Dogshooter,

The 204 workes great on the yotes but it plays havoc on fox and some times on cats. This is where the 17 rem is a better choice. I have found that the Calhoon bullets is more fur friendly than any thing else. I some time use the 22 hornet when calling, and the bullet of choice is the Calhoon. With this bullet the hornet shoots almost as good as the 222 rem witn little or no fur damage. Take care.........Joe........
