Cleaning the guns in my case, dusting, reoiling, etc.   I realized that the guns I enjoy shooting, handling etc, are not the most expensive in the case.   Anybody have the same thought?

gotta love simplicity, clean line's, easy operation. I deffintly have my favorites but i still use all my guns at least at some point during the different seasons. Some do cost more but my cheaper guns probably get used as much if not more.

Yes, you are correct in that thought.....how many times have you thought "man if I could just get one of those XYZ's, that would be the ticket!"  A lot of times I wind up getting it, and find it's not near as fun with the "new" one as with the old one.  Some things are more fun when it's a little harder or less convenient  and a lot of joy comes from just that.   Make it to easy and the challenge dies......

I bought a Savage package gun in .270 winchester from wally world for $250..........I find myself using that gun more than a lot of my more expensive guns as I don't worry so much about dinging it or having it stolen out of the truck.....and it's more accurate than just about all the rest........ I also practiced some smithing on the trigger, bedded the action and added a recoil pad as I wasn't as worried if it didn't come out just right......which is something that would have upset me on a more expensive gun.......it's just a plain, ugly gun that shoots and handles great....... And I find a lot of joy in that!

One thing for sure.......you can't buy happiness.......

I definitley love all of my guns for different reasons but the guns that I use all the time and would replace 1st if they all got stolen are the plain old H&R single shot shotguns. I don't have a bunch of expensive guns anyway. I've got a pile of them though mostly inherited a couple that I'm the 4th generation. I wouldn't trade my Granddaddy's ol Model 12 for a Purdy.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

I know what you mean Curly and I pretty much agree. I have nothing against really nice guns, but it is usually one of my "value priced" firearms I reach for when I open the cabinet for the same reasons you folks have given.

Safe shooting.

A safe queen here and there never hurt anybody---my Citori pretty much only comes out for sporting clays----while my camo Nova gets dragged through the muck most of the time.

A SKS makes an excellent truck gun---costs less than a new 10/22 at Wal-mart---powerfull---reasonably accurate---and if it gets stolen you're only out a $100 bucks or so.

While my stainless Marlin .30-30 has a stock so pretty---looks like it came from a custom shop------that its only been to the range one time-----and I've owned it for nearly 3 years now.

For me, the ones that I have owned and used to hunt for 10 years or more, that have been well cared for but have "honest wear" on them, are my favorite and are like magic, whether cheap or expensive.  Each time I pick one up, I get those mini flashbacks of the prior hunts, . . the sound of the gun, the buck against the shoulder, the clean kill, and the gun in the snapshot with the game.     The well used ones are like small time machines, that always take me back.  Brand new ones are never loved by me, until I get them properly scoped, adjusted, and then used for 10 years.

And you know what else?  The really expensive guns are never the ones that you end up using in the field year in and year out. They are generally middle of the road guns, that you picked out on a whim and tuned up yourself, and are 100% reliable.
