300 wsm

Anyone have a experince with this round as far as accuracy and hunting.
I have been looking at 300 win and 338 win and have found many of these on the local shelves.
I was put of at first thinking it would be a passing phase but more companies are offering this caliber and now even Remington as relented.
What is the palce of this cartridge. IS it as accurate as the 300's. Does it have down falls when compared to the 300 win. The ballistics look awsome but I want soem hand-on advise.
How is the factory ammo (accuracy/price) compared to ammo of the others. I dont reload so this is very important.

Thanks

I shoot a 300 win not wsm.  I recommend the 300 or 338 I heard that wsm doesn't handed the heavier bullets.

I have noticed that about the ammo also. 180 g is the largest Ive seen.
I have also read about concerns about chaber pressures and quick neck errosions.
I having problems finding the rifle I want in a 300 or 338. I want a light accurate bolt actionwith a 24 or 25 inch barrel. I have been drawn to the ne tikka t3 lite but NO ONE has any in stock and are not sure they ever will. I wush someone made a rifle similar to the Rem. model 7 in a long action caliber like a 300 or 338 for around the 500-600 dollar range.

The ruger Mark two in ss laminated looks great and price wise beats everyone around here but I have read many concerns over the accuracy.
Savage just doesnt appeal to me having held many and owning one I'm just not impressed.
Guess I'll continue to want  and not buy

davis1as,

My brother in-law shoots a .300 Win. Mag. and his wife shoots a .300 WSM, both in M70 rifles.  They weight about the same, same length barrels, etc.  The accuracy edge goes to her .300 WSM using bullets up to 200 grains.  Many don't want to admit it but the short-fat cartridges ARE proving to be inherently more accurate than their longer counterparts.  Just like the new Savage’s are showing to be the most accurate out of the box rifles coming off the assembly lines today.  Lawdog

Seeing that I own both a Win Model 70 in .300 wsm and one of the new Savages in .223 with the Accu-trigger .... ditto what Lawdog just said! Both are awesome setups and both are every good thing you have heard about them. The Savage produced a 4 shot group with all holes touching on the fourth group with 55 gr Federal Reload bulk ammo. I think I'll start reloading for the .223 and get that group size down a little.

Sorry .. I have no hunting experience with the .300 wsm yet. The .223 Savage will definately be making the trip out west in late May for a prairie dog hunt.

If I were you I'd go with the 300win mag. in a tikka t3. I have one in a 7mm. mag and love the thing. Look on gun broker.com or guns america.com usually there are some listed, other wise try a gander mountain store, if not in stock they will tranfer it from another store. Don't give up on the tikka.
