Scope for .280?
« on: February 16, 2005, 02:48:19 AM »
Whats a good scope in the $125 for my .280 RMEF rifle. I was thinking something in the 4-14 power or a Simmons Aetec in 3.8-12.

Why? What are you going to do with a .280 that requires a varmint scope on it? You'd be much better served for most deer hunting applications with a scope of 2-7 or 3-9. No hunting rifle I own has more than a 3-9 and only one has that much scope on it.

Look at the Bushnell Trophy line or the Legend line. I think you'll find them in the right price range. Also Mueller has a 2-7 which is primarily intended as a shotgun scope that's in your price range and might work well. They have a new 2-7 coming out soon that would be ideal also. I'll be getting one of those for review in the not too distant future hopefully.

I have a burris fullfield 11 3x-9x-40mm on my handi 280 and it works real fine. That handi in 280 will test a scope as it kicks real hard. In fact had to have a muzzelbrake instaled on mine, Hope you like shooting it as much as I do mine.JR

well i guess everybody likes their own kind of soup but i like have a lot of scope on my guns  the lowest scope i have is a 3-9.  i would go with the 4-14 you said you know the old saying aim small miss small well it is very true and you can only aim small if you can see it. just my feeling on the subject.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

I'm going to change out the scope on my 280 to a 3.8X 12  Atec, mainly because of low light shots. My 280 does not kick at all, I got the 280 barrel and a 45 70 barrel back at the same time and the 45 70 kicked like a mule for about 50 shots, and the 280 shot like a dream from the first shot.  Digger
