I know this will end up with alot of opinions, but I wanted to know what MOST of you consider to be the best all around bore cleaner.  Safe on the bore, and does the best job for you.

Personal favorite is Hoppes #9

I think everyone has used Hoppe's #9 but here's one just as good and cheap!  It's called Ed's Red (from Ed Harris) and available over internet....

1 pt. ATF Dexron transmission fluid
1 pt. acetone
1 pt. K1 Kerosene
1 pt. Mineral Spirits (low odor paint thinner)

I still have quarts of Military Bore cleaner I bought years ago in a War Surplus store,nothing I have tried has exceeded it.

The best stuff I've ever used is WipeOut, easy to use and works excellent, great stuff!

I use Shooter's Choice, followed up by regular Hoppe's #9

Quick, I agree Wipe Out is a very effective bore cleaner. (Now you know this is the first half of a "but" sandwich) But, how clean do you want your bore to be? I started using Wipe Out in my .257 Rbts and my groups opened up. I can't be certain of an exact cause and effect relationship but on a trip to the range I noticed late in the session the .257 was starting to group better after it'd had almost 20 rounds thru it. At home I just gave it a few strokes with a brush and Hoppe's and then swabbed it out. Next trip back to the range it was grouping as well as it ever has. So I'm not too sure just how clean some of my rifles need to be. The Shilen site has a FAQ about this and they contend a little fouling is good for accuracy. So your right and if it's working for you keep it up. I'll keep some Wipe Out on hand for really dirty barrels but think for that .257 Rbts I'll just go back to the old brush and hoppe's method. This is still a work in progress for sure and based on my limited experience so far nothing to draw any hard and fast conclusions from, but that's what I found at this point.

Yup, I agree with that, if a rifle shoots best a little fouled, the WipeOut will affect accuracy. I suspect that would be more evident in a bore that is not well broke in yet. In the bores of my 17hmrs that I have Moly-fusion treated, it takes a lot less rounds after cleaning to achieve the sweet spot in accuracy than it did before the Moly-fusion...just 6-10 instead of 30-40 rounds. Each barrel is different and knowing how that particular barrel reacts to cleaning needs to be known and will change over time as the barrel breaks in.  I know lots of hunters that sight in their hunting firearms once every year and don't clean em until they stop hunting for the season or spend some time in bad weather with their rifle. :wink:

I use Eds Red to remove powder fowling (we actually add a few other ingredients, which i cannot share until we decide what to do with the concoction).

I read recently in Gun Tests magazine that BMG .50 was the highest rated bore cleaner in a test that featured Sweets, Hoppe's (not 9), WipeOut (I think, but not sure), and a few others.  sorry i don't have the magazine with me now (at work) to give the accurate report.  Perhaps its online someplace.  The real interesting thing was that despite its efficacy, BMG .50 could be left in the barrel for quite awhile without damaging anything.  This is in contrast to Sweets.

Based on what I read in a similar thread here a while back, I mixed up a 50/50 solution of Marvel's Mystery Oil, which I've used for years in my gas tank/engines,  and Hoppe's #9 and was amazed at the gunk that came out what I thought were my clean bores.  Especially in my 22 caliber bores, where it seems little black "sheets" of fouling  came out.  Cleans quickly also; I use fewer patches.

I read the same thread and also mixed up some 50/50.. I'm very satisfied with the results and will continue to use the mix for all my cleaning.

I just started using a different method than the one previously (Shooters Choice and Sweets).  I know a gunsmith that clued me into this.  It works really well.

1.  Saturate brush with Kroil penetrating oil.  Run it through bore ten times back and forth.  Let sit for five minutes

2.  Take some of that JB bore embedding compound and rub it into a patch.  Wrap that patch around the brush (I'm sure a jag would work just fine too).  Saturate it, or close to saturation, with Kroil.  Run patch back and forth through bore 10-15 times.  

3.  Run two wet patches of Kroil through bore.  

4.  Run three dry patches through bore.

Done!  That's it, and it removed all powder and copper fouling.  I'm not kidding.  After cleaning like this, I tested the bore for copper by running Sweets through it (one patch, 15 times back and forth).  I got a very slight bluish discoloration.  I mean VERY light discoloration.  By the way, I was using nylon brushes.
