I'm replacing the sights on my .45-70 Handi with the Williams FP rear aperture sight and the Hornet front sight as was suggested on this forum.  I received the rear aperture sight and in a second shipment received a dovetailed front sight that incorporates one of those light gathering devices.  My original front sight is attatched with a screw so this isn't going to work. Also, this new sight is less than half the height of the original.  I was under the impression that the front blade sight on the .22 Hornet is higher.  Customer service didn't seem to understand what I was talking about.  Any suggestions for getting the right front sight? Also, can anyone confirm that I should be getting the.22 Hornet front.

The hormet front sight works well on my 45-70 with the Williams WGRS rear sight.  I got my front sight from Brownells #427-401-270.

I think they sent you the wrong sight (front) the hornet front sight is a tall screw on blade I have one on my .357 max works great. 8)

It's kind of a chore, but here's how I rigged up my sight.  I removed the front sight and got a williams shotgun sight base.  It is dove tailed and will accept a williams firesite.  To get the right height, I made fork shaped piece of wire and taped it to the barrel in place of the front sight.  Next I bent the handle of the fork up to make a sight post.  Then you just go to the range with a pair of side cutters the trim the wire down until its the right height.  Measure it and call williams, they can get you fixed with the right combination.  You will have to enlarge the screw hole from a #4 screw to a #6.  Paid a gunsmith to do this....a man's got to know his limitations.

Hey RCN,Are you perhaps interested in getting rid of one or more of the inserts for the original Lyman front sight?I bought a used BC that only had one sight insert with it and I would like to at least have a post insert.Thanks.

Stan, the entire 17A sight set is available, although I probably wouldn't buy it from Midway with their minimum charge unless I needed some other stuff....

Stan, my rifle is a Handi.  I don't have the Lyman front sight system, just a blade.  Sorry.

Tried again with customer service and this time they got one of the gunsmiths involved.  He knew exactly what I was talking about.  They told me what I have is a front blade Firesight for the Huntsman (I'm not familiar with that model???).  At any rate, they are sending the .22 Hornet front blade and told me to keep the Firesight.  Thanks for all the help!  By the way, what kind of performance are people getting with this sight arrangement?

3" or better groups offhand at 100 yards with my .357 max, And can tighten that up alot off the bench. Took a 150lb doe the winter with the same rifle. All inall I'd say it works pretty good. 8)
