Got my Handi Today
« on: February 26, 2005, 02:25:48 PM »
Well its hear, i got the call from wal-mart last night and i picked it up this mourning. I bought the 45/70  and i cleaned it put on the mannlicher stock and found an unused scope in the closet . Now all i need is to find some time to get to the range.  Whats the norm for scope mounts are you guys using the high or extra high ?I am using the leupold weaver style quick release and i think there medium hight , my thumb is rather close to the scope but i guess its workable.

Congratulations tanoose!!!, do you have a hammer spur on that hammer? That's just what they are for, being able to safely and securely grab and cock/decock the hammer with a scope attached. Usually the lowest rings that allow for scope clearance are best. How does the 45-70 barrel fit in the barrel channel in the Mannlicher stock? My stock will hopefully be here monday, they charged my credit card last week. It seems that either the 45-70 or 30-30 barrel is a natural for the Mannlicher stock with the 45-70 probably the best and most natural combination. Let us know how it shoots!!!...<><....

Andy...I think you'll find that the barrel profile on the 30-30 will leave a pretty good sized  gap all the way around the inside of the mannlicher forearm . It really looks good on the larger profile barrels though...like the 45-70 and the 44 mag barrels....and definately use a hammer spur on that hammer tanoose to prevent an accidental discharge if your thump slips...

Thanks Deadeye, I think between them (45-70 and 30-30) the 45-70 gets the nod as the best overall fit on many levels. What do you think of trying the Mannlicher forarm with my 12 guage Tracker II barrel? Think it would work? Can you think of any advantages or disadvantages?....<><....

Yes i do have the hammer spur on and i like the medium hight i just have to find a better scope to fit . As far as the stock it seems to touch the right side of the barrel with a little space on the left i wasn't going to use the barrel band but that seemed to make it better. I may have to do alittle sanding but first i'll see how it shoots.
