And if you know of any really good deals on your recommendation, please let us know.  I am about ready to buy one.

Thanks,

Mike

My first one was a Shooting Chrony, but I got a lot of errors with it and sometimes it just didn't react to shooting over it.  I gave it away and got a CED with the IR sensor and haven't looked back.  It's absolutely reliable in all light (or the dark for that matter).

My shooting chrony beta master works just fine. Sometimes it doesn't read but it's a function of positioning. You need to be sure you're firing through the center and that it's not canted.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I've been using an Oehler model 33 for years now with no problems except for the one time I shot a skyscreen. I then upgraded to the new skyscreen III's with the larger shooting area.

I have a BASIC F1 Chrony. Shoot and it tells you the velocity. Shoot again to get the next reading. it doesn't average, string, calculate anything. ( A $2 calculator does that.) It's a good basic no frills machine that has provided allot of data for my "hacking around"/ load development. I paid a whopping $35 for a remanufactured one right of the chrony website. I believe you can still get them there or on Ebay for under $40.

If I was going to use it allot more than my 2-3 times a year, I'd probably opt for a more advanced model but I have no gripes with this one after 6 or so years of use.

I called Shootin Chrony a couple of months ago.  They no longer sell refurbished merchandise.

I have an old Pro-Tach that I bought in 1986.  It still works just fine.  I'm not sure if the company is still in business.  They used to make chronographs and timers for the action pistol shooters.

Same as Ian, CED with the IR screens. Bit more of a pain to set up but I get a reading on every shot no matter where the sun is (or isn't) Mine came with ballistic software and and extra screen. The plastic they used looks a bit cheap but hey it works. Still use my chrony F1 for shotgun though.
