Now THIS is what I've been looking for.  Can't say it would be the most logical thing, but still quite an exotic piece.  Not that I would seriously consider buying one, but they are interesting to look at.

Looks like something out of Star Wars...Where'd I put them tracers? :eek:  


Enjoy the picture; only thing I have found out there so far.  Seems the reason being, you can only get something like this custom made on demand; not really anything someone would buy.

You may want to look deep into the gun. Birdman make a lot of pictures and modifys them. He is a frequent poster on Biggerhammer.com a 50BMG site. He also modified a picture of a glock to install homeboy sights on a pistol sideways. He also posted a picture of a 50BMG nuke round. I was hoping it would be a revolver. Now I'm waiting for the inevitable comment that says "it has surprisingly mild recoil".

Redhawk1: I think that one is genuine, or if not, it strongly resembles a similar gun I saw published in print not too long ago.

There was another set of pictures that I saw that mention exactly what you said. They were kind of stupid though; can't find 'em right now, but I'm beginning to think the same as Redhawk1.  It seems with pic enhancement technologies nowadays, one can do almost anything. :evil:   Really a shame that it would be a fake; being there are some pretty crazy customs out there, I was sure something like this is at least possible. :?

The one I'm thinking of was called "rhino" or something like that. It was a bigger pistol, but definitely a pistol.

No. I've seen that one and would like one for cowboy action shooting ;)
The one I saw was in a magazine article on 50 BMG guns, and this one particular one was a pistol. All I think I remember about it was the name Rhino.

I just did a google search for "50 bmg pistol" and found this link that indicates that the hoax gun actually does have "surprisingly mild recoil". http://www.guned.com/pages/50bmgpistol.html

If they made a 50BMG pistol count me out.  :eek: I had two 50BMG rifles and it was fun for awhile, but the concussion gave me headaches. I had a Hesse 50BMG with a 30 inch barrel and a ferret 50BMG with an 18 inch barrel. When I shot the Ferret, I had to wear goggles and a scarf over my nose and mouth, to prevent the muzzle blast from rushing up my nose. The concussion was out of this world, I could not imagine it on a pistol.  :shock:

The only .50 BMG Handgun I ever saw was a IMAC pistol back in the 90s. They supposely stopped stopped making it becuse the ATF frowned upon a .50 BMG pistol.

You have been where I fear to tread. Your experience reminds me of the article I read on 50 BMGs that featured the pistol. It was in one of the major mags, certainly Shooting Times or Guns and Ammo.  They had a sequence of photos of a guy shooting a 50BMG rifle from the bench and it really smacked the guy. It mussed his hair and left a pained expression on his face. It sure seemed to kick up a lot of dust too.  

I know a prairie dog guide that had some clients from the east coast bring a 50BMG rifle to shoot prairie dogs with. I'll have to ask him how it worked out.

My interest in the 50BMG is in wondering how fast I can propel a handgun  bullet using just the 50BMG primer as a charge.  Just the primers are big.

The 50BMG handgun was very heavy. I probably don't remember this right, but it was on the order of 25 pounds.  It was vaguely reminiscent of a Remington XP100 with a heavy club of a wooden stock. It was either bolt action or one of those cannon breech single-shots.

Questor,

That first link you provided was the exact set of images and context I was talking about! Either way, I'm still convinced that there are such things as 50 BMG pistols.  Don't really hear much about them because I believe many would think they are very illogical (which is what would make it an exotic piece! :wink: ) and very little is known about how to present one that people would "want" to buy.  S&W really did their homework for presenting their .500 mag I'm sure.

I am sure the 50BMG primer would push a bullet a good distance. One draw back is the price of the 50BMG primers. A little over $100 for 500 of them. Also I shot my 50BMG without the muzzlebreak and I only did that once. I thought I messed up my shoulder and could not shoot for about 2 weeks.  :shock:

My 18 inch 50BMG did not weigh that much. My 30 inch 50BMG weighed 28 pounds.  :eek:

:D I saw a .50 BMG similar to the one mentioned by Questor at the Reno Gun Show approximately 15 years ago.  The guy who made them up used to exhibit there on a regular basis.  If memory serves me correctly, he was from New Jersey.  I think he used the actions from old German Anti-Tank rifles as the basis, but I believe they were cut down.  The gun was in a green laminated thumbhole stock, and looked like a Fajen stocked XP-100 on steroids.  Weight was around 32 pounds.  Nice looking piece, and supposedly very accurate with little recoil.

I have shot 50BMG's a lot, and there is no such thing as a little recoil.  :D

You are correct.  Perhaps I should have said with "less recoil that one would expect" or "all previous shooters of this pistol have survived" :-D .
