Actually a 9-shot timed “biathlon” using muzzleloaders and wooden showshoes.

:-D    Hey!..........there be BIGFEETS,  all kinds of em.  Now,that looks like fun.  We were attempting to do that up here but so far not a whole bunch of takers.  Seems like it is much more fun to drink coffee in my heated garage and shoot out of the window at distant targets.  Now that is fun,but that snowshoe things looks like a real great idea...stay safe.......King

'Haven't been on my snowshoes in the 14 years since I left Maine for Va., but I still keep them handy just in case.
Yeah, I do miss the snowshoeing trips to the woodpile, which was just a hump in the snow because it was only five feet high!  :)
I miss the looks on the cross-country skiers faces when they met me hunting hares with a double-barrel 12 ga., on snowshoes.    They must have thought that they were in a time warp!

Well, I wasn't the fastest thing on snowshoes on the almost-2-mile-long wilderness biathlon set through the Vermont woods, but did I tie 6 others for the highest score when shooting at the metal gong targets (Saturday’s scoring).

We had to hike/run almost 1/2 mile to the 1st set of targets, which were metal gongs, hung vertically, 3" wide by 12" tall, set out at 40 yards. Then it was a 1/3+ mile hike to the 2nd set of targets, 5" round gongs @ 35 yards, then on another 1/3rd of a mile (uphill!) to gongs the same size as station #1, but hung horizontally.

That's me :D  on the right ... with the Mowrey rifle of course

I did well and hit all 6 of the first targets straight. Then another ½-mile hike to the finish line where we had to shoot at 6" by 6" diamond-shaped targets at 59 yards as read by a laser rangefinder. I missed the 1st one and then hit the 2 others.

No one shot a perfect score of "9" as of Saturday and I was one of only a handful that hit 8 of the 9 targets.

That's "Mike the Indian" on the right with an early dog-leg rifle

Now all I need to do is get in shape ... as I was really sucking wind! Must
exercise ... 3 more similar events to go to this winter!

Looks like a blast! I was out on my snowshoes today, just to remind myself how fat and lazy I'm getting. :-)  If I had to walk uphill I probabably would have thrown my rifle away! :-D

Now that looks like a blast.  Makes me miss living back in Wyoming.  My showshoes are hanging on the wall behind me, as another poster said, "just in case".  We had about 8 inches of snow all winter.  Sure miss real winters.
