Well, I wasn't the fastest thing on snowshoes on the almost-2-mile-long wilderness biathlon set through the Vermont woods, but did I tie 6 others for the highest score when shooting at the metal gong targets (Saturdays scoring).
We had to hike/run almost 1/2 mile to the 1st set of targets, which were metal gongs, hung vertically, 3" wide by 12" tall, set out at 40 yards. Then it was a 1/3+ mile hike to the 2nd set of targets, 5" round gongs @ 35 yards, then on another 1/3rd of a mile (uphill!) to gongs the same size as station #1, but hung horizontally.

That's me

on the right ... with the Mowrey rifle of course
I did well and hit all 6 of the first targets straight. Then another ½-mile hike to the finish line where we had to shoot at 6" by 6" diamond-shaped targets at 59 yards as read by a laser rangefinder. I missed the 1st one and then hit the 2 others.

No one shot a perfect score of "9" as of Saturday and I was one of only a handful that hit 8 of the 9 targets.

Now all I need to do is get in shape ... as I was really sucking wind! Must
exercise ... 3 more similar events to go to this winter!
