Bought a new SS/composite sidekick today.I have a .223 ultra I bought like new and a new pencil barrel .223 with the ugliest pallet wood I've ver seen.

Will the black composite stock /forend from the sidekick fit the new .223 regular? Can I try the ML barrel on either .223 frames?

What is the differance in the 17 cal's and which one is the best for chucks and plinking? The store has one of them in blk/and composite MC stock for $109,is that a buy?

I'm already a member of a twelve step group, this Handi-thing means more meetings I am sure.

all the best,
lizzzard

all most all stocks are interchangeable, so go ahead and try the stock switch. It won't hurt to try to see if the muzzle loader barrel will fit either of the 223 frames, but do not put  either of the 223 barrels on the muzzle loader frame.

As for the .17s, the 17hmr would be the better of the 2 for chucks but it would have to be a head shot. But for plinking i would have to say the the .17hm2 would be the best. If you can get either of the .17s for $109 that's a real good price. Around here the they go for $130 to around $150. I would go ahead and get one if funds provide.

And the twelve step program......... :(  i had a ........COUPLE of relapses i just hope every one can forgive me.

What Drew said is pretty much right on...I'll add that the 17hmr has several bullet choices to choose from...the better chuck ammo would be the 17gr TNT/Speer hollow points and even better the 20gr Hornady XTP or CCI Gamepoint rounds, they're designed to penetrate in heavier critters instead of fragmenting on like the Vmax. Chest or head shots will work fine on them, although chucks are known to make it too their holes with marginal boiler room hits.

As far as I know, all H&R butt stocks will fit any SB1 or SB2 frame with the exception of the forends which might require some barrel channel change to fit the heavy barrels. I've switched several synthetic and wood stocks around between centerfire, shotgun and rimfire frames, they all fit so far.

$109 is a great price for a Sportster any place but at Walmart where their retail price is $104.
