« on: February 24, 2005, 03:49:43 PM »
hello;

can't find post that address this subject.  if i find a used barrel for my handi, is it hit or miss if the barrel will fit.  correct?  will the factory fit the used  barrel to my receiver, for a fee?  if the factory will not do the job is there a gunsmith that does this task and does good work.  none in the b.r., la area that i trust.  thanks for any input.

H&R will not fit a used barrel to your frame, they will only fit new barrels that they sell to your frame when you send it in. Some used barrels will fit fine, others won't, it's just a matter of owning enough frames to get one that fits good. If you only have one frame, odds are not the best that a used barrel will fit. Any good smith should be able to fit a barrel for you, just make sure you are fitting a barrel that is suitable for the type of frame you have, IE, not rifle calibers on shotgun frames, etc. If you use the search feature in the NEF Centerfire forum for barrel fitting, you should find what you need for a DIY fitting.

Yep, Ole Quick, he is the authority here.  What he says is the gospel.  If he don't know he can quote you the site where you can find it.  Yep, it is a hit or miss situation.  You just never know.  I bought two old shotgun barrels this summer just to get the lugs.  Didn't care squat about the barrels.  But guess what..... both fit my 2004 rifle frame perfect.  So search this site for the info you need, it is all here.  You can do it, it ain't rocket science.  Just a bit of tiddeness.  Is that a word?
