I just bought my first walnut contender carbine buttstock and forearm from a gun show yesterday. It is goodondition but on the forearm, the screw hole closest to the muzzle has a metal insert that the screw head butts up against. The screw hole closest to the breech does not have the metal insert. Is it missing? is it a critical part and does anyone know where I could get one?

The T/C forearms never had these inserts but some aftermarket stocks had them. The forearm might take an unnecessary beating by shooting without one so here is what I did to make one that I needed. Depending on the hole size, I used an appropriately sized empty case( a 223 Remington in my case) and drilled it out to accomodate the screw. Next, I placed it in the screw hole with the base towards the barrel and trimmed it down to the wood. A flat black paint finished off the thing and it worked fine. Unless you have a through hole without a step, this should work for you. If you have a hole bored straight through, You will need to epoxy(acraglas) this in place but with some care in fit and finishing, it will work fine.

My carbine came with the two inserts your speaking of (NEW), I just assumed they all had them.

Hmmmmm, the reason that I had to make one is that I couldn't get one from T/C because they said they never made these.

I must not be understanding what you fellas are talking about then. :?
All I know is my Carbine forend came with two small metal washer type things in the screw holes that the screws tighten up against to keep the wood from compressing too much in the forend.
