I called T/C today (2/7/03) and was discussing the .45 caliber barrel that I have with someone up there and I was telling him about the accuracy being not what it should be with this barrel and asking him what there was to do about it. Well, he asked me what kind of bullet I was useing in it and I had told that I have tried the 195 gr. powerbelts and the Reminton cor-loks he proceeded to tell that in thier test chamber there at T/C they shoot the Barns XTP 180 gr. bullets in the .45's they test and get excellent results from this bullet. Well this is all well and good for them. But, what if I cannot get this particular bullet in my area. Or, if by chance and I am sure that this could happen and will eventually down the road will happen that Barns comes up with a different kind of bullet and they discontinue the 180 XTP's then whats going to shoot in this barrel with the 1:20 twist? It's my opion that if T/C found out that they have a problem with thier barrels with the 1:20 and that they have already replace some of them they should replace all of them. To me that is like a defect, something that should be recalled and made right. Anyway, this is just what I found out and I thought that I would share it and blow off some steam about it and maybe get some other input from other Encore addicts out there. They are not the only ones that are having this problem. NEF discontinued their 45 huntsman because of it not being overly accurate with a 1:20 twist.  That is why you are not seeing too many 45's to be bought. Those that are out there with a 1:20 are just hoping to unload them.

There is nothing wrong with the 1:20 twist in .45 caliber rifles but there is something wrong with certain manufacturers efforts at implementing it.  My White shoots great and that's its twist rate.

Underclocked has it right.  check out the white muzzle loader site and check out thier methods for long range accuracy.  Short, lite bullets dont preform in faster twist rilfes.  Longer, heavier bullets stablize beter than short (pistol) bullets.  I personaly havent acieved constant and repeatable accuracy from any remington cor-lokt sabot combo. Well I jumped over there and checked out the whites, they are pretty aren't they, but they sure are proud of them price wise anyway. Thanks for all the input. :wink:

:grin: I sent my 1 in 20 .45 back to T/C and they sent me a new 1 in 28 this week. Took about 3 weeks turnaround time. I just told them i couldn't get any groups at 100 yards and could they help me. I think the kicker was that I told them I was using their bullets and sabots. Send it in, all it will cost is the postage one way.

When I talked to T/C they said that if I sent in this muzzleloader barrel that they would test fire it with thier bullets which would be the the Mag XTP 180 grs. and if it grouped for them with these bullets that they wouldn't replace it. Now, so far with what buisness that I have done with t/c with my problem that I had with my 300 win mag.  has been excellent. My concerns are this, my way of thinking is if you have any type of gun, barrel or what ever there should be more then one type of bullet/powder that you should be able to use with it. One should not be limited to one type of bullet manufacture or powder manufacture only because of this, things change everyday, and something that you buy today you may not be able to buy tomorrow. I am going to give these Mag XTP's a try to give them the bennifit of the doubt but if they don't group like I want them to this barrel is going back with the the target. I went through all of this with my 300 win. mag. and they finally had to replace it. So far they have been real good I hope they continue to be.   :shock:
