What type do you reccomend? Are there one's to stay away from?

I have a small dog ~15 lbs so I need something with low level correction. I will be using it for general Praise/correction training. I will be taking him for some tree rat hunting as he is a natural at treeing and barking. I brought him home one in a cage and that was all it took...lol.

I will start the reading process but I def want someting with a tone. I was leaning toward the innotek adv300, tone, 7 levels of correction, 300 yard range. Simple but all I need.

Any sugestions?

I have an Ultra-e Collar that I use on my 70# GSP. It has a beep that I use as a warning.

i would highly recommend getting a dogtra the intensity level goes from 0 to 100 intermittent and continuous and the best feature on it is that there is a vibrating pager on it same thing when your cell phone vibrates as on the collar very reasonably priced under 200.00 i paid for mine the transmitter is very small and compact small enough to put in your pocket or were it around your neck the whole name for a web search is dogtra digital system. and i promise you you will be very pleased!

I bought a Tritronics 3 dog system 8 or 10 years ago....lite 100 system..I've sent it back to the factory once to have the batteries replaces. Tritronics, I can recommend as the ones I have go through the rough stuff day in and day out. I use them rabbit hunting with beagles.

I've used the DT Systems and several Tri-Tronics collars. Keep it simple, the tri-tronics 100 mentioned by victor charlie is a great one. Main thing to remember, more dogs are ruined with them than made. Unless your breaking a dog off undesireable game, they do not train a dog! For training,,,breaking a dog off game it's used as a form of severe punishment. I've used them to snake and porcupine break dog's but it's is punishment and work's.

Avoid the collar's with all the good boy tone's and be carefull tone's, they are confussing. Also avoid the collars with a delayed shock, very had to time the shock correctly; timing is everything. The Tri-Tronics 100 is a great one. You can have constent shock or 1/10th second shock; no bells and whistles. You don't really need one with a 1 mile range either. If you can't see your dog, there's no good reason to shock it.

2 years ago i got a tri tronics collar for my dog.i was tired of a dog that wouldnt listen and told myself " never again"after my last pair of dogs.well last year i got another dog and traded my collar in on a 2 collar set. i spent 12 years hunting with a pair of dogs that had a mind of their own....if i only knew life could be so easy.ha ha ha

I had a Tritronics 200 lite for over 10 years. The batteries went dead for good and I traded it in on a newer version that you can change the battries yourself and a 2 dog model. When I was looking at new collars I called the collar clinic in MI which serivces all brands and asked them what brand they thought was best? The guy chuckled and said we all own tritronics. Take it for what its worth. Thats why i went with tritronics again.

Hey shinbone, if you don't mind my asking, what breed dog's did you have trouble with and how old were they when you started training them? If you started training them befor one year, when did it go bad, that they just wouldn't listen?
