Anyone know how to remove the safety on the Rossi M92?  Do you need to replace it with anything to fill up the hole?

Many thanks.

Dunno but would like to. Will be watching the answers here myself. Ya know if you buy it from EMF they don't have the silly safety. But my Puma does.

You might want to ask this on Paco Kellys site Leverguns.com. Theres a smith that frequents that forum who works on Rossi's & I'm sure I'v seen him answer this question. I forget exactly what he said but believe you need to leave it in (set in the off position) & file the switch off & reblue.
He does this mod for a reasonable fee as well but I dont recal his location.

I think Steve Young may be the guy you're talkin about. He's down in Port Arthur, TX, & charges $40 to remove it. Does other things to Rossi's, as well, one being replacing the plastic magazine follower( I hope that's the right term) with a metal one. His website is Stevesgunz.com.jd45.

Thanks, Gentlemen.  I had emailed Mr. Young previously.  I have no interest in Cowboy shooting and only wanted a trigger job and the safety removed.  He wanted $120 for a "race" gun rework of the action.  Never got a price on just the trigger adjustment.  And you are right about the safety removal:$40.
Something must hold this safety in place.  I believe that once removed it doesn't need to be replaced.  If filed off it would have to be pinned in place, seems to me.  As it blocks the firing pin, I doubt it would be missed if not there.
Perhaps LSI could provide a breakdown.

Thanks, Guys.  Excellent article by Jim Taylor.  I will see if I can get in touch with him.

I wrote Rossi in Miami to see if I could get an exploded drawing or a manual.  I will let you know what they do.

Mr. Taylor responded at once to my email inquiry.  The safety is held in place with a pin and a spring and ball detent.  He advised these small parts could be easily lost if one is not careful.
I have the NRA published book on take down and it has a Rossi M92 in it.  Pretty straight forward.  I think after removal the top could be filed/ground off and reinserted with epoxy to hold it in the fire position.  That way no debris could get into the bolt.
Might try that some afternoon if it ever warms up.

I ground off the little lever, removed the bottom third of the safety (the actual functional part), polished the top and reblued and reinstalled. It now functions only to plug the hole the made for the safety.
