Accuracy question Handi .223 "FIXED"
« on: February 12, 2005, 06:14:42 PM »
I went to the range today and was a little disappointed, I was shooting my handi .223 with american eagle 55gr full metal jackets and the first 2 shots would be touching each other and the 3rd was always a flier always on the right but sometimes high and sometimes low. It was 43 degrees and the barrel never felt hot. If I waited on the 3rd shot for a couple minutes then it would touch the first two almost clover leaf. I neglected to mention but this is at 100 yards and no wind. It did this consistantly with 40 rounds, 20 of the 40 rounds were the 64 grain soft points by PMC and I could see no difference in the two bullet weights as far as accuracy. Any suggestions on how to fix this 3rd bullet problem? Thanks Jimmy

Shoot slower. Check your forarm with a business card to see it it is touching the barrel if so sand it out so the card will pass.

1dahunter, sounds like you have a real shooter there the way it is. And it shoots cloverleafs at 100 with 64 grain bullets!!! You have a winner! It's the first shot that counts when hunting anyway, and in your case the second one goes right next to and touching the first? You have bragging rights for sure. That gun and you should win or place in the upcoming postal matches for sure with cloverleafs at 100!!! Congratulations....<><....

Thanks guys I will check the barrel with a business card and follow thru by sanding if needed. I was very shocked by the accuracy of the first two shots I was just concerned about the third one and I think I will enter the postal shoot just for the fun of it. Im gonna go read up on the specs of the postal shoot. Thanks Bunches guys :D  Jimmy

I got my problem fixed, one I floated the forarm and bought weaver high rings which lowered my scope a good 3/4 inch. Went to the range yesterday and was useing winchester 55gr fmj I zeroed at 200 yards. I put one of those 3 inch stick on targets for a rim fire on the board at 200 yards and shot 30 rounds one after the other and all hit inside the 3 inch target, Man I am so happy to have such an accurate rifle. All this was done useing a Tasco 3-9x40 Buck scope on 9 power.  I am definately hooked! Thanks for everyones help it worked!!! Jimmy

Congrats on great shooting rifle ! One question, you said you used high rings to lower scope- was this a misprint ?? what rings were you using before ? Also what model/barrel is your 223 ?
