One day I can get a decent group and have had as good as a 5/16 group with 75 v maxes. But I usually have fliers on the norm. Cleaned it and first grouf today was 8 in. The next was 2in. Done all the tricks recommended on the board. I rechecked the screws on bases. Scope may be the culprit.I can wiggle the back focus ring and the whole sight picture moves a little. It is a bushnell sportview 4x12. Is this normal for a scope I would think not? Thanks

I would try another scope before giving up on the rifle. It does sound like something is loose somewhere.

If anything is moving on your scope set up...it most likely is the reason...also...make sure your front screw on the ultra's scope rail has about .0015"-.0020" clearance between the barrel and screw...then locktite the side scews...I've found that your groups will go higher when the barrel starts heating up. and the srew having solid contact when the barrel is cold.....and it doesn't take many shots with the 25-06 Ultra for that to happen...also...check to make sure your barrel isn't touching the sides of the forearm...this to can open your groups up...if it is...then you need to releave any wood in the barrel channel that is touching...and this is on bottom...and the sides as too....lastly...you have to make sure your following all the way thru on the trigger...everytime...this will throw your groups off as well...just like canting the rifle...and not shooting off a soft bag placed under the hinge pin...hard rest makes the barrel bounce...

Now thats funny I didnt see that one coming. I will try a new scope tomorrow if I get time. Im not using the screw on the front of the base. When using the o-ring trick is the wood on the back of the forearm have to touch the barrel for a tight fit?

When snugging the forearm up...just tighten it...not over-tighten...the forearm wood shouldn't touch it all along the barrel channell...front to back...

Brokenscope,

I had a Bushnell Sportview on a 3006, it came with the rifle.  If I farted too loud on the way to shoot it would be off by inches.  I put a Leupold on it and fixed the problem.  I'd try another scope.  Just a few months ago I took out the old sportview and put it on my Handi Hornet.22, same results/

This thread is too rich!  FIRST a guy named BrokenScope has a  . . . broken scope, THEN a guy named BeanMan is able to knock a scope off zero without even firing . . . well, not firing the GUN anyway.

Scope sounds like a good suspect, but don't give up on the lock up area either, found mine loose, done some shimming and peening on the hinge pin now it will shoot at least an inch every time with 75vmax's.

I shot a  3\4 3shot group today with a different scope. I believe the problem is hopefully fixed. I also sanded some wood off the forearm. Ill have to reload some more shells to be sure.Thanks for the info I was about to give up on it.
