Hello,
Anyone have any experience with the Egyptian Hakim?
Good? Bad?

Good experience with the 8x57  Hakim.  Very simple,  robust, reliable (didn't  jam with a variety of ammo)  and with its muzzle break had virtually no recoil. The muzzle break did not seem to amplify the muzzle blast like most of them.   Sights were well regulated to point of impact at 50 yards.   Appeared to be as accurate as 8x57 bolt actions with comparable bore wear and the same military ammo.   Could not make any stripper clips work with it though. Had to load them one at a time. Ambidextrous safety, large and easy to use. Easy to disassemble, clean and put back together. Much simpler than the Garand. (Always had parts left over after I reassembed the Garand).  Better than average trigger pull for military rifle.  

Very long barrel and very heavy but easy to shoot probably for those reasons.  

This action is very similar to the M-16 in that the gas tube is routed directly to the bolt.  No operating rod like the M-1.  It is a Swedish WWII  design called the Lunngeman (phonetic)  and was manufactured under license in Egypt after WWII.  A limited number of 6.5x55's were manufactured by Sweden but were never issued in great numbers because Sweden remained neutral during WWII and ultimately did not replace its bolt action M-96 & 38's in that caliber.

A fun gun if you can get one for a decent price.  B-Square makes an IER (Intermediate Eye Relief) socpe for mounting on the rear sight base. Never tried one, but it was listed in their catalog at one time.

Did you say HAKIM??? The best semi-auto rifle I have ever shot swedish designed with open sites with me shooting it, it was dead on at 100yds with PMC 8mm ammo. The only thing with a Hakim you have to adjust the gas valve to the ammo you are shooting this is why the the extractor breaks it gets slammed with hot ammo with the valve open too much. Its the smoothest shooting rifle it just lays there because its so big and the muzzle blast is the loudest I have ever heard. Its the same design as the swedish ljungman AG42 or AG42B the prices range between $250 and as high as $800 my limit is $250 to $375 for one depending how clean it is. I do have one that is well used but it still looks great and shoots great with the egyptian numbers on the stock. My other one is mint condition blonde stock. You have to also check the bore first then see if the gas valve moves they stick after a while you have to anti-seize it so it remains free its just an overlooked maintanence thing that nobody does with adjustable gas valves that we should do. Most of the semi-auto's have the same design floating carrier, the sks, french mas, hakim, ljungman and the torkarev are very similair the french were the first to design the semi-auto back in the 20's. I have to say the big bulky hakim is some shooter I like it try it and you will see and agree too. If its priced reasonable buy it let us know how you make out.  You won't be sorry if you buy it just make sure it doesn't have a broken extractor and the bore is good, and the valve is loose but if its froze I can tell you how to free it just email me.   Feel free to email me anytime this is a great gun one of the most cherished in my collection.                                                        BigBill

The swede's designed it and sold all the machinery to manufacture it to egypt and they manufactured it. Its more like an 8mm ljungman.

It's too heavy, it's too long, It's painfully loud!
I LOVE IT,
It is all you could ask for in an anti-tank weapon!
All it needs is wheels, and you are good to go!
I wish they came with bigger Magazines though!
Seriously, Mine is a great shooter, It is not a rifle
you would carry into the woods in search of deer though
for the reasons listed above. The guy I got it from liberated
it from it's previous owner and said that it was in
"DROPPED IN SAND ONLY ONCE" Condition!
That was a big joke to the Soldiers of Israel!
They were too heavy for the Egyptians to run away with I guess!!
I thought that he was joking until I disassembled it totally
for cleaning. The space between the barrel and the Gas tube
was full of greasy sand!!!
Word to the wise --- BE CAREFUL LOADING IT!!!
They will bite the tip of your Thumb off when the bolt closes!!!!
And strippers don't work well in mine either!

Hay S. Sumner:  I picked up some 30 round magazines for my Swedish Ljungman, the AG42B, which is almost identical to the Hakim.  They might fit the Hakim.  I'll try to remember tonight to look at how they are held into the action and let' see if it is the same with the Hakim.  If so, then we need only fing out where to get them.  Mikey.

Numrich has replacment Hakim barrels for about $45.00.

The Hakim is a fine rifle.

The October 20, 2002 issue of Shotgun News has a very good article on the Hakim.  Stripper clips for the 98 Mauser will work but there is a trick to loading them properly.

The magazine can be replaced with a 30 round mag out of the german assualt rifle that was designed at the end of WWII (K-44 or some such?).  There is some cutting and filling required to make the mag fit.  A friend of mine has done this conversion and is quite pleased with it.

I bought mine 10 yrs. or so ago for $80 off of a table that had five or six on it.  Wish I would have bought more!

Hey my fellow Hakim owners I found a website(OG's Hakim) a while back about modifiying a German MG-13 25 round mag to fit the Hakim and found the mags at IMA-USA.com for $15 with little mods it brings the Hakim up to speed/firepower.                          BigBill
