Just ordered my forearm. Told it will be here one to two weeks. Total $35.80, I guess that shipping to Alaska is the reason for a higher price. Oh well that's the price of living in hunting paradise.

I guess a lot would depend on if H&R would respond to our requests. If not it would a moot point.

However I would go for a 7-30 Waters Handi, laminated fore end and stock with special medallion.

The initial idea did not envision a custom caliber but I guess anything is possible. The minimum order of 50 pieces for a special order is built around putting together items they currently have with minor variations (checkering, no checkering etc...I think). It might be possible to have them make up a caliber that they still have tooling for, a caliber that have made in the past and currently produce barrels for in the diameter, .35 Whelen or 7x57 mauser for example. Special medallions we would supply might be worked into the deal. How about just getting together and having some special medallions made up to be inletted into our current stocks? That seems like an easy way to start, especially if they are available in the diameter of the current H&R medallions....<><.... :grin:

Do you think they would do custom stock sets we could buy. Like camo laminated, checkering, and have the custom medalion put in it. Or maybe we could have Gun Stocks Inc. do the stocks for us. Then maybe Gun Stocks Inc. could provide the stocks to NEF for the frame and barrel. If i can't get the 7-30 waters then my next chose would be the 35 whelen.

I like the idea of a GBO "Speical Medallion Edition." I'll take one. But I want a .257 Roberts- darnit. I know it's not a rimmed cartridge but it's so much more accessible to us that don't reload.

I think you are right. I think a 7mm-.307 would fit right into a 7-08 chamber if the recess for the rim was cut out. Any minor difference would be resolved in the first firing. I wonder how much the extractor/ejector would have to be modified?

The 7STE is a 7mm-08 with a rim. Run 307 WCF brass into a 7mm-08 sizing die using a 30-30 shellholder. :wink:

I wonder how much difference it would make in extraction/ejection? Would it be worth the cost of cutting a rim recess and modifying the ejector/extractor? I reload almost every shell I shoot anyway so ammo availability is not a factor.

Been watching this thread......have hesitated to join. Now let me preface this with" I am the last to talk about dreamers" as I am chief among all. However, it ain't gonna happen. Never get that many "gun nuts" to agree on even the barrel length.

As to the Krag conversion, how about the 7mmKrag. Nice and neat. Yep, lots of fine cartridges out there just looking for a home. I personally have always been fond of the 219 Donaldson Wasp. A man ahead of his time, Harvey Donaldson. But don't let me through cold water on another mans dream. Just dream on, that is what all this is about, having fun with these goofy lovable little rifles.

If this idea can be got off the ground in one way or an other I would buy a gun in most any cal, but would per-fer a varmit cal.

I do like the idea of handi-haloic in the medallion.

I have to agreee with Haywire here. Coming up with a caliber that all can agree on seems to be a logistical nightmare. A nice stock set would be more affordable and seemingly easier to pull off. Instead of there being 50 of the exact same gun out there wouldn't it be neat to see how each "Handiholic" uses their set? Haywire, great idea! :toast:

I agree with HH about the stocks being a more doable project. The following quote is from an earlier post in this thread and offers an idea that may be a place to start cheaply and easily. It followed another posters thread with a link to a company that makes medallions. If we had a medallions made up to our specs and the same diameter as H&R's we could either pop out any medallions in our stocks or ask H&R to inset these for us. I believe this might be the cheapest and most expeditious way to go.

This is a workable plan guys, we just have to come up with a medallions design and after a few phone calls to H&R we could do it!!!. There may be a tool-up fee in addition the the medallion fee that would have to be split by those involved but I see no insurmountable problems. (Always the optimist!!)....<><.... :grin:

If this idea is gonna get off the ground we need to start seperate threads for each option......caliber,barrel length, finish, stock set, & sights. If we could possibly get Gunstocks Inc. to provide the stocks to NEF that might encourage them to do this for us. But we need to find a dealler that would take on this project like, let's say, Raynor. If he agrees then we can proceed with the stocks. Then the artists out of the bunch will need to start drawing sketches of the medalion. Maybe come up with 2 or 3 and vote on the one everyone likes the best. And the samething for the calibers. We can't go crazy with this. We have to be realistic. Maybe settle on 5 calibers then take a vote. But first and for most we have to find enough people dedicated to this project and willing to fork out a little more money than the normal handis cost. I myself would be willing to pay an extra 100-150 for one. This is one idea i would like to see go all the way.

Fellows, I lurk here frequently, but do not post often, but was prompted by this thread.
I like your ideas, and it would be nice to see a Special Edition rifle built just for this forums followers.
My comment is on the barrels.
I would love to see the 7-30, 307, and also add a 356 Winchester.
I also would like to see the barrel, what ever caliber it may be made in, be a varmint Ultra barrel contour. 24" or 26" length.
With that though, I wish it was a two or three barrel set, using the above calibers. Or even the old 30-30 if the heavier barrel contour was used instead of the present contour.
