Here's one for you. I took this oryx on 12 Feb.

She was 36.5"x37.5". Carcass weighed 195 lbs. Shot at 216 yds from Rem Model 7 SS 300 RSAUM with 180 Nosler Partition. Hit broadside just above the left shoulder joint. Three exit holes on the off side. She dropped so fast I couldn't pick her back up in the scope after the recoil! Total length of the hunt was 30 mins. Not much but I filled my tag and she was beautiful!

Nice looking Oryx. Did you get her on the White Sands? I shot my bull on the Stallion Range in 1/04. Have you tried the meat yet?-----Better than elk IMO. Conglads. CB

I got her in the Rhodes Canyon area of the WSMR. Yeah, I tried some of the tenderloin Sunday night. Grilled it up along with a piece of elk strap and some bbq pork chops and garlic mashed taters. It's easy to eat, I'll tell you that! I know its only once in a lifetime so I'm trying to live it up as much as I can now!

A very impressive animal. It sounds like it tastes good too. Did you scout and hunt all by yourself or do you need a guide to hunt them?

You can't really scout them because the range is a restricted area. From what I've heard you don't really need to. Guides are not allowed. When I checked mine in at the ranger station one of the wildlife guys told that the success rate of these two day hunts has been really close to 100% for the last few years. You just apply for the hunt, pray you get selected and ride out into the desert on the day of your hunt and you'll find them. I heard someone on this board say that a NM oryx hunt can be as easy or as tough as you want it to be and that really sums it up. If you want to apply and if you get selected, let me know and I'll be glad to help you out. You are allowed two additional people (non-tag holders) to help you remove the animal from the field. They also come in handy when it comes to manning a pair of binoculars!

Congrats on the great bull oryx.

Actually, the tags are not that hard for non-residents to draw.

A couple of the hunts have great odds for NON-RESIDENTS!

In many cases, the odds for non-residents is better than the odds for residents because of the early application deadline and the $1500 tag cost.

Last year, I had 4 of my buddys draw permits. Actually, I believe 2 of them are hunting it this weekend.
