Greetings from Ontario. I am very interested in getting a muzzleloader. I have been doing a lot of research on the net and man there are a lot of conflicting and confusing opinions and reviews. I have contacted some manufacturers and found some very nice but most not. The best thing I have found is this forum because there does not seem to be too much BS and A LOT OF GOOD HONEST OPINIONS AND HELP. Keep up the good work guys and I will let you know what I choose. Hey Ricoh I am right across from Prescott in NY I have relatives in Cardinal. een though we are in different countries, we are practically neighbors lol. Welcome aboard. For my money honestly, I would go with either the H&R huntsman or sidekick. Cheap and good shooters. I have owned both and both worked equally well.

I just bought a Sidekick,haven't shot it but with the scope on it it's perfect fit for me.Much lighter than anything I've had.Got the SS 24" composit stock.I find all Muz guns are heavy and awkward,this one truly is not.

Her's a tip, order the 12 ga. Topper  custom deluxe then ship it back for the huntsman Muz barrel. bout  $ 250 for everything US.
Most of my shots are around 100yd. so the 24" is fine with me,otherwise order the 26" for longer range and Max. loading.
lizzzard        Dallas Tactical had blued ones for $114 I think.

I think I might order the NEF. You guys all think it's a great shooter and SAFE and you can't beat the price. For a first muzzleloader I think it is the right choice. Thanks for your input. I will let you know when I get it.

Welcome to GB. I have relatives in Nipigon and Goulais River, Ontario. Can you use 209 ignition there? I never asked my Uncle what your Muzzle Loading rules were. Just curious, because if you can't, the Huntsman/Sidekick would not be a good choice. If you can the Huntsman/Sidekick would be a very good choice. I have had a Huntsman for two years and love it. I also have two Knights, three Whites and a T/C. The Huntsman is my "go to" gun and the least expensive of all my Muzzle Loaders, but very accurate and the least picky for loads, it shoots everything very well. If you go that route, check out the H&R/NEF Huntsman Forum for some good starting loads. Good luck in your decision!

209 primers are legal in Ontario. In my area we were allowed to use muzzleloaders in the gun season only. now we have a 2 week season for shotgun and muzzleloader and a 1 week ML only season in December. I hear through the rumour mill that the ML season is going to be expanded for next year. I hope this is true. I took 3 deer this year with my 20 gauge Remington pump using Challenger slugs( all 1 shot kills) but I am really excited about getting into muzzleloading for the challenge. It is more like bowhunting which I also do and because you have only 1 shot you have to make sure it is a good one. That is what deer hunting is all about.
