Replacement rear sight needed for Rossi 92
« on: February 02, 2005, 02:12:38 AM »
I just found a pre safety, pre Puma, 16" Rossi .357 in "not broken in yet" condition and I snatched it up in an effort to take some of the wear and tear off my pre '64 M94 30-30 which I have been shooting far more than my 9422 for many years.

All has been well with the Rossi so far except it shot a bit high with the sight all the way down. I thought since the rear sight was straight up I could bent it downward a bit and be fine but the overly hard steel broke and I am stuck. It has a metric sized dovetail cut in the barrel which is too big to hold the standard 3/8" sights available. I have looked around on the web and I can't find any source for replacement parts.

Any suggestions other than grafting another sight onto the original sight's dovetail?

[/b] Thanks for the "heads up" Gino!

I had looked through their catalog and must have missed it. I quick trip to their website and I was good to go, I ordered a few more goodies also.

That Marble replacement sight looks a lot like the sights on my Winchesters and a hell of a lot better than the BB gun quality original one. I am glad they showed one for the 16" barrel and another for the 20, hopefully it will be adjustable enough to suit me since the front sight is part of the barrel band I can't do much of anything there.

I wish I could receive my order as fast as I placed it, having a new gun that I can't shoot is really bothering me especially after running every piece of brass I could find through my Dillon XL650 in preparation to get the little Rossi dialed in then broken in. I hope the ejector spring mellows a bit, the first piece of empty brass I ejected made a dent in the ceiling! It will sling a loaded round farther than my 1911 tosses it's empties.

Thanks again!

Those early Rossis' had a hell-for-stout ejector spring and no amount of shooting or time will weaken them.
Wolff and other spring companies make spring kits for nearly all makes and models of guns, and I believe brownells sells those for most guns.A complete set of springs will really tune the action on that levergun.
CAUTION:taking em apart is easy.Putting 'em back together will have ya stringin' cuss words together in many strange and unfamiliar patterns!!!:)
Be sure to keep the mag tube clean.Mine loves to rust up for some reason.
Great little carbines.Enjoy.

Steve is the Rossi levergun expert and can do any kinda work you'll ever need. He also is very likely to have the parts you need.

I agree that the factory sights leave a lot to be desired.  My .45 Colt M92 is at the gunsmith for refitting with a 5D Williams rear and a Williams Firesight for the front.  Those poor open sights and my old eyes just don't work well together.
He is also removing the safety as per the previous post, removing the bottom 1/3 and reinstalling it to fill the hole.
Perhaps then I will be able to sight in my 300g cast bullet load.  Should be a fun gun to shoot.
My wife latched on to my original M92 that was converted to .357M.  Now maybe I will get to shoot this one.
