Just bought a High Point 9mm this afternoon.

No flames please.  I know it's not at Browning or Kimber but it has a pretty darn good rep from owners and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Plus it fits my price range.

Just looking for a fun semi auto and even a used one cannot be had here for under $450

Checked into one at a shop recently.  They certainly can not be beat for a new piece at the price and the staff really pushes the lifetime warranty.  I did NOT test it due to time constraints but plan to eventually...  With all the kudos the missus and I heard that day about it, it certainly seems a heavy chunk to lug around...especially if CC is your objective.  

After you try yours out with a variety of loads, I'm sure a bunch of us would like to hear how it performed, how the recoil was on a full house load etc.  With the slide weight what it is...the recoil would seem to be diminished...to way the least.  

Let us know what happens, if you would please.  :wink:

I haven't shot the pistols, but every Hi-Point owner at the range likes their pistols.  I do have the Carbine, and it's accurate and reliable - works very well with a cheap BSA red dot sight!  It especially likes the steel-cased Wolf 9mm ammo - a cheap gun that likes cheap ammo!   :-)   Excellent plinker.
I'm eagerly awaiting the .45ACP version.

:cb2: Don't worry, I'm not flaming Hi Point, but "lifetime warranty" doesn't mean as much to me anymore as it used to. You can spend more on shipping than you paid for the gun sending it back to the factory for warranty work. Especially if the idiots at Taur . . . ah, the factory, can't fix it right the first time. Or, second time. Or, . . . well, you get the picture.

I don't know about the handguns, but the 9mm carbine is great. Its never given me a moment's trouble. I think the handguns work on the simple blowback system with a very heavy slide and spring to handle the big cartridges. The Hi-Points are a little top heavy, but if you can live with that, you shouln't have nay problems.

No flame here. I just have seen a lot of frustrated Hi-point owners. The guns jam, fail to feed and the person just gives up. The range where I go has a lot of the High point owners trying to sell the gun and get something better, but the shop owner will not take the High points in on trade. My buddy bought one from a pushy gun dealer and he was so upset with the gun he smashed it with a hammer. before he smashed it we tried all kinds of ammo and nothing worked.

A friend that owns one also had a problem that was determined to be with the clip., send it back to them, they sent him a new one.  Before that happened, he called them up and they took the time to talk with him...and worked out the problem..Great customer service.
Had your friend sent his back to Hi-Point to get it fixed? Or was he just fed-up at that point?...

I handled my first Hi Point at a gun show recently.  I was really impressed with the finish and feel of the gun.  For the price, I think it would be hard to beat, heck, you could send $125. worth of ammo down range in one afternoon and have nothing left,  it wouldn't be a bad buy if you had change to play with.  And a life time warranty to boot............

I don't think they are of the same quality as a Colt, Sig, Glock, etc.  but for a cheap gun they are not that bad...................kinda like kissing your cousin, it's nice, but you don't brag bout it. :roll:

He was just fed up at that point. He still has the gun all smashed and when he thinks about buying a cheap gun, he look at the bag of parts.  :-D  If they work for you all great, but I would not spend my money on one.  :eek:

Always thought the guns looked ugly and cheap BUT.....
I have shot about 700 to 800 rounds through the 995 carbine and it has been perfect will all ammo. Got it for $110 new when they first came out. Pretty accurate and not one jam, misfeed or FtF. I brag about it to everyone and I won't give it up but I still think it is uuuuuugly.

Now the High point carbine is a shooter. I bought one about 3 years ago and gave it to my son for a plinker. He has well over 1000 rounds fired and it works great. But there pistols leave a lot to be desired. My buddies problem was with there handgun not there carbine.  :D
