New Handi Problem?
« on: March 01, 2005, 03:16:03 PM »
Not sure if this is a problem or not i will call customer service tomorrow. I noticed a little space between the barrel and the receiver / Its at the top of the barrel and you can only see it if you hold the rifle up to a bright light.  I did try to get a peice of  loose leaf paper to slide in this space but could not. Has anyone noticed this with any of there handis I  am thinking that maybe this is how it should be and not tight against the receiver as it would not close otherwise.

Tanoose, a factory fitted barrel will lock up tight on a .002" feeler gauge layed across the breech above the firing pin. A piece of aluminum sods pop can is approx .002" thick if you don't have an automotive feeler gauge set. If the barrel locks up but you can remove the .002" thick blade or piece of aluminum easily, I'd contact H&R and see what they say.

If it locks up on notebook paper placed across the breech above the firing pin, it's fine.

There is a new Simmons ATV 4.5-14x40 on ebay right now.  I have 2 of these and I think Quick and others have them.  They are good scopes.  Usually can pick one up for less than $80.

Okay, I'm lost. Is that a slam on scopes from China or Simmons or both?
Or, not at all a slam?

Beats me, it went right over my head too.  That may be a reference to chinese made scopes  This particular Simmons is not Chinese made.  It is made with Japanese optics assembled in the Philippines.  Even Nikon and some other big names assemble some of their scopes in the Philippines.  The ATV in particular was made a few years ago, don't know how many, during the time that Simmons was going thru musical chair ownership.  Someone had the foresight to contract a fairly good scope in the ATV.  Over the years, Simmons has made some pretty decent scopes and some real trash.  The ATV happens to be one of the good ones.  The scope I was refering to on the above post I think finally went for $83 plus postage.  This was in my opinion a good deal on both ends.  As I said I have two.  The only complaint I could have is that the adjustment clicks are a bit "mushy" feeling.  But it does adjust and holds adjustment.  I have one on a 223 and one on a 243.  Don't know how they might hold up to a big boomer like a "magnum" anything.
