John Barsness says 57gn of H-4831 will do it with a 150 gn bullet so should be no problem with a 140gn.  Of course we all know to work up to these loads.

Most of the published data I've seen for 140 grainers shows velocities just under 3000. When it's this close, variations in guns mean a lot. Don't use magazine data, use data from ballistic labs.

i get and honest 2900 from mine using 150's and imr 7828 and magnum primers.   with regular primers the load is beyond worthless.  with magnum primers,  my favorite. i would think you could get 3000, or really close to it.   but keep in mind book data is just that- what your rifle will actually do is another story.   the only way to know is to run it over a chronograph.

thelaw,
I'm shooting 56.5 grains of H-4831 and the Hornady 140 BTSP bullet from an older Model 70.  It has a 22 inch barrel and I ain't near 3000 fps.  I am right at the 2800 fps.  I can't imagine 3000 fps with a 150 grainer and 57.0 grains of H-4831.  Maybe that 3000 fps can be had with a 26 inch tube.  Don't know for sure.  My 270 just plainly won't do it.  3000 fps may be a bit tougher to get in the 270 with 140's or 150's than the literature actually indicates.  I know I don't want to push my Model 70 to that MAGIC number.  It's killed plenty of white-tails at the lesser velocities.  Good-luck...BCB

Hi,

My oehler chrono tells me that I get 2970fps (Av) using 150gr BTs and 58.5gr of RL-22, CCI LR primers in a 24" shilen barrel.
