I read over on the ruger forum, that the old tooling for the mini-14 was worn out and when they retooled a lot of effort was made to square things up so it was "balanced and blue printed".
I wonder if they made the same effort to improve the accuracy of the mini-30??
So I guess the way to tell if it is a "redesigned" mini is to look for the new style sights. Because I bought a NIB mini-14 shortly after the synthetic stock was available w/the stainless model, and it had the rubber butt pad then.
