1. My new stainless 22-250 came out of the box requiring it be snapped shut to lock up. After about 30 rounds it's better.
2. The spent case of Winchester factory ammo will not allow the breach to lock up / close. Spent cases from handloads could be rechambered and closed.
3. It opend hard after firing both types of amm.
4. Fliers. Far to many. I'd print 3 of five @ 1" pluss a couple up to 5" out. (no keyholes)
5. I could'nt figure out what size the base screws are! What the heck! so it did'nt get removed.
6. I doubt its the scope, rest or the "nut behind the trigger"
7. I used J-B bore cleaner on it right out of the box and pulled quite a bit it metal shaving out of the bore and found it also in the frame.
8. The cases have slight hump or ridge about .25" from the base and the chamber is discolored from that point forward from the brass but not in the first .25" of the chamber.

Also I found the bore sighter that came with the BSA 6x24 scope from riflescopes.com was'nt such a good deal unless your wanting a headache. It's junk. I just hope the scope serves me better. ( The bore studs are hopelessly too small in the respective bores causing a loose (read useless) fit.)

I think I would be for sending it back and let NEF fix it right this time.

If that's not an option, be advised the breach pressure is probably too high making it hard to open after being shot. You'll probably have to load it down somewhat. Of course, if that's what you wanted, lower velocity, you probably would have gotten a .223, right?

The Winchester brass is probably stretching and not allowing it to rechamber.

The fliers may be coming from inconsistent lock up, which may be the cause of the brass stretching problem too.

Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Contact H&R, ask for it to be returned and checked out. They will either issue a call tag for UPS to pick it up or offer to reimburse you for shipping costs.
