Overall length issues

I'll try to keep this short.  I recently purchased the stoney point oal gauge, and bullet comparators to check some firearms that have been giving me fits.  

The first rifle is a Rem 700 7mm rem mag (formerly owned by Joe Foss).  I have had hard extraction issues with many of my reloads for this firearm.  The gun shoots well, but occasionally the bolt has to be tapped to get a spent case out.  I don't remember having any issues with factory loaded ammo, but I have not fired any in the gun for some time.  Anyway, the stoney point gauge needs to be pushed in with more force that I belive it should take.  Then when I try to advance the bullet to touch the lands I can't seem to get it to move forward?  Can't figure this one out.

The second rifle of a Win 70 300 wby mag.  When I seat the gauge and advance the bullet all goes well except that I show, (after numerous attempts) that when the bullet contacts the lands it is barely contained in the case neck (REEEALY long).  This firearm has never been a tack driver, but it has dropped it's share of elk.  Again, can't figure this one out?

The other firearm I check Ruger 7mm08 seems to check out as I would expect.  Any advice or ideas?

Weatherby rifles are known to have long throats so the Weatherby bullet seating problem isn't surprising.

The hard extraction issue may be due to a  load that may be a bit high for that rifle. Is it your reload? Try backing down the powder charge and see if it affects the extraction.

I've heard that weatherby's have a long throat, but I would not have guessed that in order to touch the lands there would not be enough bullet in the case to properly grip it.  In addition, It wouldn't even come close to fitting the magazine.  I'll try seating bullets to fit the magazine and see how they shoot with a little less jump to the rifling.

As far as the 7mm goes, I'm sure the loads may have been to hot for the gun, but they were per the lower end of the Barnes data.  I do understand that Barnes has determined that some of the original load data for the 7mm Rem is not correct in their book.  My real concern is that I could not get the OAL gauge to go into the chamber without what I consider to be allot of force.  Also, I could not get the bullet to advance forward to the lands.  Seems like something is crooked.  I'll clean the gun real good and try again.  Thanks for the suggestions.
