Pictures - Savage 24 Combination Guns
« on: February 04, 2005, 04:16:19 AM »
I have a pretty decent collection of Savage 24's in various calibers, and thought I would post this link in case anyone wants to see them, or compare, as Savage is not very forthcoming with information about older guns. I looked at Savages website, and they state that because of reorganization, and going as a private company, they are only responsible for guns produced after 1995. My guns range in age from 1967 to 1989, some I'm not even sure which year they were manufactured, but I've endeavered to put what info I can with each pic.
This link will get you to the pics, and you can click on the thumbnails for a full sized pic and what information I have on the gun.

Wink_Man,
now you really did it.  The bar is raised.  Wow.  Great pics.  I now want a Savage.  But I can't trade my soon (maybe in my lifetime) to be collectible Baikal IZH 94 30-06/12ga.

That's some mighty nice wood.  Are they all refinished with tru oil?  Looks like you got all of the ones with fine grain.  Mine sure don't have that.  Wonderful pics.

YKD,
any gun that was refinished, says so in the info, and yes, whatever was refinished, was done with tru oil, however, better than half are completely original, and several are NIB with original box and unfired.

I really enjoyed viewing your arms.  I never knew Sav made some with silver receiver / frames.  And I didn't realise they put walnut on them so late.  Seemed like all the ones I saw had birch stocks.

So how accurate are some of those .222, .223 and 30-30 rifles?

Maybe I'll try to post a pic of my Dad's old 22/410 that I just finished.  Can't say that I know how to do a real good job though.

I have a Savage 24-cs made in the 70s.
It has a nickel plated receiver and barrels.
The wood was finished with tung oil and
it came with a regular stock and a separate
pistol grip.
I can shoot about 2.5" with irons at 50 yds.
  What a great gun.
It's a shame they switched to synthetic stocks.
They look so good with the wood.

Doc,
I am looking for a 24CS for my collection, don't see them to often, if you were to consider selling the gun, I'd be interested, and would appreciate the first crack at it.
 Sincerely,
 Garry

Very nice Winkman.  I have a 22mag over 20 with a Silver receiver and blue barrel...24J-DL.  I absolutely love it.  It has to be one of the most versatile firearms to carry in the woods.  Any idea where to get an original buttplate for it?  Mine has a big chunk out of it.
....make it count

Robert,
     You can try Bob, at:
http://www.gun-parts.com/index.html/
He's a little pricey, but has good savage stuff, and is a good guy.
Alternately, you could try:
 http://www.e-gunparts.com/
However, I'm not breathless about them, they tend to send the wrong stuff.
If you can't come up with one, let me know, I might have one laying around, but I'd have to look.
 Sincerely,
  Garry

I've kept it for 30 years already, so I don't imagine I'll ever
sell it, but if I do I'll contact you.
By the way, You have one gorgeous collection of 24s.
(if I sell you mine, you'll have all the pretty 24s)   ;)
take care
