7MM-08 "superlight"?
« on: March 04, 2005, 10:13:36 AM »
Hey guys . . . I am thinking about getting a 7-08 barrel for one of my handis.  They list a 7-08 "superlight" with scope rail on the web site.  Does anyone have one and is it really "lighter" than the average contour?  I am looking for light set up and wonder if that might be the ticket.

If you're referring to the HR1871.com accessory barrel page, they don't come with rings, just the scope rail and hammer spur extension. Can't help ya with the 7mm-08 caliber specifically in the superlight, but traditionally most don't find the superlights as accurate as the standard barrels, but there are also exceptions to that, I'm sure.

DOH!  I just looked back at my post and saw that I typed "rings" . . . dummy me!
I meant that it was set up for a scope with the rail and extension . . . I am sure that the light contour barrels tend not to be "as accurate" but for a "walking rifle" (As opposed to my "tree stand rifles") I thought it might be a nice one to carry.  Baiscally checking to see if someone has one and what they think of it.
Thanks!

I have the superlight in 243 I love it! Great walking rifle! Much lighter than the regular. To date I have only run two boxes of factory ammo through it. The first box Rem Corelo'kt 100 gr gave me 1"-1.25" groups the next box winchester 80 gr softpoints shot less than .5"   so I can't complain about accuracy. I'm glad to here that they make a super light barrel in 7mm-08 as this would be the next barrel for mine. What loads are you planning on using?

I believe the "Superlight" was a typo. I have heard the barrel is a standard contour. Might want to call or email customer service.

After checking the H& R website I believe Ed in Alis correct the superlight only comes 223 & 243 Question is will the regular barrell fit on the superlight,  I don't know. I will keep mine in 243 , besides the deer I killed didn't ask me why I din not shoot them with my 270

All SB-2 receivers are the same, whether for youth, superlight, or heavy barrel.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Yes, I was only referring to the barrel contour . . . the weight difference is quite large there between contours.

If you want that true light walk all day whitetail handi rifle  you might  want to consider the 243. Loaded with 95 -100 gr nosler partitions It's deadly on deer. I would not trade mine for any $500.00+++    bolt gun. When it comes to bench shooting I just let it cool a little longer between groups
