Can I convert my G2 to a rifle? Is it legal? Legal or not, do I just get a long barrel, forearm and butt stock?

My understanding is that it is perfectly legal to make the switch from pistol to rifle. There are complications if you try to go the other way.

To make a Contender a legal rifle the barrel must be over 16 inches long. You put a legal rifle barrel, a rifle stock and forearm your G2 frame and you have a rifle. One of my G2 frames is configured this way and it works well.

That issue has been settled in court and the answer is yes. Handgun to rifle is legal. However to be FULLY legal at all points in the conversion you must FIRST add the long barrel to the frame and THEN add the butt stock. In converting it back you must do this is reverse order. Now if you're doing it at home who will ever know? But if on a public range well now, I'd be sure and be legal.

Does not the Encore make more sense as a rifle. Trying to decide on all of the calibers I need (want)!

To me it somewhat does. I guess it really boils down to what you want to shoot in it and at what. There are plenty of offerings in the Contender line but most for really big stuff require hand loading where as with the Encore you can get plenty of choice for which factory ammo is fine.

The Ecore makes more sence for big bore rifle, because the Contender frame won`t handle the presure. I have a Contender in .17 AH though that has been my main carry gun for about 4 years now. I made my own fore arm for it because it was just to lite. I push a 19 grn. bullet at 3,600 fps. and the gun shoots point blank to abt. 290 yrds. I bought a .204 barrel for one of my Encore frames, but will still carry the .17 AH alot because it is so lite and shoot so good.

Guess that depends on one's definition of "big bore".

The .45-70 is fine in the Contender as is the .375 JDJ. Not sure I'm aware of any Encore chambers of larger bore other than the .475 Linebaugh which likely is available from some.

But you're intent as I understand it is correct. There are finite pressure actually back thrust limits to the Contender that are much higher for the Encore.
