bought a winchester 94 need sights advice
« on: February 26, 2005, 07:35:27 AM »
i just purchased a win 84 30-30  i love the gun and have put 4 boxes  through it already decent shooting little gun.  i took it hog hunting the other day but as dusk fell  the factory sights were just not all that good  i would like to get a peep and fire sight  but not sure which one my 94 is top ejext and has to screws on the side where it looks you could mount a peep fairly easy the serial number on the gun  is 4,907xxx so almost 5 million  i know this must be fairly new  i added  the x s to replace the other digits as i did not want to give out the serial nuumber of the gun no offense  what site would you all put on  my uses for the gun are going to be  a plinker and  to do some serious thick woods hunting with it.  i have other guns included both marlin 45-70 and 30-30 but wanted an even lighter gun  thanks in advance

To keep it light and still have an A#1 sight. May I recommend a Marbles tang sight.  Longer sight radius and very hunt friendy.

I just put a Williams FP on my Marlin 1894, and love it. It was the FP94/36, which would be the same one you need.  Took about 5 minutes to install.  Let my 8 year old granddaughter try it, and she's already busting clays at 25 yards with it.  First time she's ever used iron sights.

If you want the reciever sight and the fire sight the company to contact would be Ashley Outdoors, or as they are known now XO sights.

Your rifle was likely built about 1981. I have the Williams FP on one of my '94s, and It has served very well. No problems in 35 years of use. I take the aperature out for hunting.

I agree with John on the Williams sights. They make a twilight aperture, which has a brass ring around the hole, but I generally also hunt with the apertures screwed out.  For close woods hunting, I can't think of a faster set-up,  I have used the firesights on a shotgun, hog hunting, and they do give a good sight picture at dawn and twilight.  Good luck.

Williams FOP or Marble's Tang Peep.  The Williams sight has a lower profile, and costs less.  The Marble's makes me wonder why anyone ever bought scopes when they first came out.

I'd say Marble's too, but I am a little biased. I used to hang out with the foremans kid back in highschool.

Marbles has a few fiberoptic rear and front sights that might be a good choice, or they have more traditional rear and front sights. In fact, Marbles were once factory stock sights on many rifles, before everybody decided that cheaper was better.

www.midwayusa.com has a big selection of Marbles sights.

I have a few of the williams peeps but what i like about the marble tang sight is i can leave my stock sights set for 50 yards and use the flip up tang for shooting out long range.

Howie1968 I have the same set up on my marlin guide gun you will be real happy with it I can't see why one would want to mount a scope on a lever other than failing I sight

Howie go with the williams they have the rear and front fire site combo for your rifle. Price it at midway or midsouth.
