what will my .243 handi do with 100 grain?

Heres one for the .243 handi owners...What type of groups are you seeing at 100 yards with 100 grain lead?  Looking for a deer round for my son.  What ammo are you shooting?  Thanks!

I got almost half inch groups with mine using 75 grainers and 39 grains of Varget powder.

100 grain loads

Mine will not shoot anything other than 100 grain loads very well. With 100 gr. Remington loads I get about 1" groups at 100 yards.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

Stan, thanks for the hope!  1 in 100y sounds good to me!  Do you have a handi? or ultra?  Are you using the regular green/yellow rems?  I will buy a box and try them if it ever warms up!  5 degrees today and we have 18" + on the ground!  Been too cold to hit the range.  Thanks for the responses.

100 gr. bullets
« Reply #5 on: March 04, 2005, 02:44:21 PM »
hello;

remington factory 100gr. bullets will shoot pie plate groups at 100 yds. all day long, if you are lucky.  based on the results of several handies shooting remington ammo.  BUT, 44.0 gr. imr-4831, 100 gr. remington bullet will shoot @1/2 groups at 100 yds.  note o.a.l. is 2.7".  made a difference.

factory 80 gr. bullets do better.

All I got was keyholes with 90 grains and up.  6" to 8" groups at 50 yards.  Sent it back to NEF.  They sent it back to me saying it was fine because they test fired it with 80 grain bullets.  Sold the rifle.

I get OK results with Hornady 100 gr bullets, but the 87 gr Hornady bullets work much better for me.

No problems with 100 grain Speer BTSP.

I do not have the actual load data available but can get it if desired.

1" group at 200 yards.

Nice flat shooter.

Just ask this guy.

i bought a handi in stainless this year and had an incredible season with it. the 100 grain remingtons shot well at 100 yards but did not leave a good blood trail. in their defense all of the deer i shot --- smaller alabama whitetails-- dropped within 50- 60 yards. i liked the terminal performance but i also like having something to follow. i tried the 95 grain ballistic silvertips and they did a little better but i am too cheap for the 22 bucks a box. i settled on 80 grainers and they dropped all but one within 15 yards. that deer was 302 paces my longest shot ever and she went 75 yards but i dont know how. if your gun will shoot 100s use them, but dont be afraid to go lighter. i hope this helps.

We are getting about 1 1/2 " groups at 100yds. with our 243 youth model and my grandson(11) shooting. That is with Rem. 100gr core-loct.  That has been good enough for 6 deer.

My superlight Handi in .243 shoots fine.  I killed several deer this last season with it .  Mine shoots Winchester 100 gr. bullet fine; 1'' to a 1 1/2' at 100 yards.  For deer I use Hornady 100 gr. BTSP Light mag..

Mine shoots inside of 1.5" at a hundred and is inside the vitals at over 300, it likes the hornaday rn the best. Real fun to shoot the hornaday 58gr V Maxes out of.

JKump that superlite has got to be some handfull with those lite mags. I know the muzzle blast was incredable outta my standard handi.
