If I am carrying something small, like a Ruger LCP, I like front pocket carry, usually without a holster. I have tried several pocket holsters for this gun, and either the gun is hard to grip with a shooting hold prior to drawing, or the holster sometimes comes out with the gun. So I just pocket carry, always making sure the pocket is clean of debris, and empty, except for the gun.
In the woods, I will often carry something small like a Bearcat or Walther P-22 in the back pocket of my jeans. I like Painters pants as they have a lot of pockets, and the pockets are a little deeper then regular jeans.
For bigger bore guns in the woods, I like a pancake style belt holster for the bigger revolvers, and a Kydex paddle for the auto's. Shoulder holsters work well with heavy guns as well, at least for me - it's nice not having to cinch your belt tight, and always having to pull your pants back up when you are active.
Like pancake style holster for defensive handguns in public in cooler weather, as they are comfortable, and make for an easy draw, and easy conceal ability with a jacket. In warm weather, I like an inside the waist band holster, with usually a T shirt, or untucked dress shirt as cover, though these holster, to me, are a little uncomfortable sometimes. A good shoulder holster can work well under just a shirt as long as you are carrying a gun of reasonable size.
