I like the black sidekick but I have no problems in this area with moister and rust. I'm also, nervous about the shine off of a stainless gun giving up my position to the animal I'm hunting. But if your significant other wants stainless buy her a stainless model and you buy a black one. Let me know how they shoot. I bet you won't see a big differance. You won't go wrong with the sidekick....

That is what they make cammo tape for :).  Put some on before the season.  I can tell you that my ss sidekick is very tight with no play in the break  at all.  I had heard that the case hardened ones may have some slop ( side to side in the break action) but it does not affect accuracy at all.  It feels like a heavy 20 guage to me and it is well balanced.  I like it so far, but am new to the sidekick.

Blued/wood 24" was $139                          SS/composite 24"  was $199

I bought the SS because, the 24" is no longer available,it seems a tad heavier than the blued/wood  but for resale round here most want SS and composite.I agree with the shine part is a negative but come next fall if I want something else my return may be a little better.I just need two good loads one for hunting and one similar for target that's more economical and I'm sure taking suggestions on that.
thx

You folks do realise it is a matt finish stainless not a high gloss?  I would almost guarentee that your case hardened frame ( if it is anything like all the ones I saw as a kid or like my cap and ball one) reflects a lot more light than the stainless does.  Take a look at both in the sun and see what I mean.  I am not saying one is better as it is pers pref, just that the stainless will reflect less and if you really want a camo gun, then you will have to tape either one plain and simple.

I handled both and did not like the feel and fit of the synthetic stock on the Sidekick or the Huntsman. Mine is a blued Huntsman and the action is very tight. It is the older one with the plastic sights which allows me to sight the gun without cocking the trigger. I actually liked the plastic sight better than the metal ones the new ones come with as the metal rear sight sits lower and you must cock the gun to sight it.  I also like the 24" barrel over the 26" barrel as far as handling.

Now when I handled a Knight Disc rifle,  I liked that synthetic stock but that was a $300 gun.

I am very careful about keeping my gun clean so corrosion so far has not been an issue. Stainless may make a difference in the field as I plan to carry solvents for field cleaning I have to deal with scent from the solvent.  I need to do a good field cleaning as It could take me 8 hours or more to get to my truck. What I was thinking of doing was leaving that stuff maybe a couple hundred yards from where I set up.

However, there are many grades of stainless out there and I doubt the type used by H&R is of high grade so the additional corrosion protection maybe marginal. Has anyone shot the a SS model and then not cleaned it for say 12-24 hours and did it hold up???? If it held up under that condition, that would convince me to spend $$ and buy the  SS. I could get use to the feel of the synthetic stock.

I bought the SS 24" and am pleased,It may clean up better but I doubt it.Synth. stock is fine with me.Both guns will need a cleaning and blued would be fine.I paid $200 and coulda got the Blued/wood for $140.Resale around here is better with SS.The gun handles super compared to the rest I tried. Cleans up easy and only shot it one day and accuracy is not there yet.
