electronic calls???
« on: February 20, 2005, 07:54:58 PM »
I've never tried predator hunting before. I do have a fox den on my property and we're seeing more yotes in the area. I was hoping to do some damage to the yotes before they got to be a problem as there are lots of cows around. What's a good electronic call to get? I was thinking about one with several different calls built in.
Also is there any place where they pay a bounty on yotes?
                    Thanks,
                    Rusty <><

There are some good ones out there, but I've always been a Johnny Stewart fan.

Don't they require a good bit of skill to learn to use? I don't really have anyone to teach me here as no one else I know hunts varmits here in Fla.

Is a Johnny Stewart a mouth call?

Rusty, I see you are in Florida. I'd check out state game laws before spending a lot of money. I believe that recorded calls are illegal in Florida and Fox are 100% protected. Coyote are open year round but Bobcat have a season.

Wynn,
I'm glad to hear from you, my son sent you a message some time back But I don't think he did it right. We're just over the county line from you in the area of Hwy 39 & 640.
We've been checking the game laws in reference to the coyotes. The law here in Fla. says that you can't use electronic calls to harvest "game animals." The catch is that a coyote is not a game animal.
As I remember you have something to do with a ranch. Do you have yote problems there? I consider it a problem if you have even one. I was getting on the interstate ( I-4) one morning at the county line road entrance ramp. I saw a yote running around in the grass around the ramp. He had obviously become confused as to where he was and where he wanted to go. he was in a near state of panic. It was just a month earlier that I saw a pair of yotes not a mile from that same spot that had been hit by traffic out on I-4.
   Thanks for the reply,
       Rusty <><

I bought a Loudmouth e-caller last year. It is a great caller and works very well for calling coyotes and fox (crows too).  I especially like the remote feature.

I've been using a Johnny Stewart for years.  When I got it, it was state of the art.  But now it is outdated and obsolete.  Yes it still works but there is new callers out there that work so much better.  With the old one it played tapes, I could only play one at a time.  To change I had to physically change the tape out of the player.  That involved a lot of noise that would spook game.  My partner bought a Fox Pro this fall and it works so much better.  and they have the calls we need here in Alaska ie(Moose, Baby Bears, Wolves.) as well as all the others used for preditors.  You can change from one call to another just by turning a switch.  If the wife doen't give me one for my Birthday in two weeks, I'm going to give it to myself.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Either this

Or this

My friend and I use the one that uses cassettes. But if I were buying my own, I'd by the one with the digital memory cards. The cards are a little more expensive per card, but the advantage of being able to sequence the calls digitally probably is an advantage.

:D If you know nothing about how to hunt coyotes the premier dog master (many will agree) is Randy Anderson.  He has several tapes and CD's on the subject and you should be able to get them at sporting goods stores and probably even Wal Mart.  He demonstrates with hand calls but teaches you a lot about the subject.  If he says use a wounded rabbit call you can do it yourself or use the e-caller.  I have a Johnny Stewart with the digital cards to plug into the unit.  If you are well healed you can get a caller that is remote.  You hold the sender and it sends a remote signal to a speaker that is up to 100 yards away.  It is a great sport to get into and you get the bonus of sending those nest robing *(^&*)^&$%% to the big pup hotel in the sky.  Either way good luck to you.  By the way I would suggest something along the line of a .223 caliber rifle with a good scope.
