Author Topic: Banner 6-24x40 (Read 617 times)

I am thinking about buying this scope from 2520 here on GBO. THis is a new scope that has not been used yet and the price is about 50 bucks less than what Bass Pro wants for it. I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with this scope. I know I have read about some of you with the 6-18 banner that have really like it so I would think the 6-24 would be good as well. I have always liked Bushnell optics and have owned a couple 4x banners. By the way, this scope will be going on my .223 handi. Hopefully if i get it I will be able to reach out and touch some woodchucks this summer...

Do not expect much brightness/clarity on these economical scopes Bushnell, Tasco, Simmonsand so on ....just do not have the FULLY MULTI-COATED OPTICS for good light transmission above 16x.
However if you have excellent eyesight and a very bright sunlit day it may work ok for you.

The fellas at RFC have praised the Dusk & Dawn Bushnells for their brightness, if you can get a good buy on one, go for it, I'm sure it will be money well spent at that price, although for normal retail, there are better scopes available...

I have had outstanding performance from all of the Banner scopes and I have had quite a few of them. Good scopes.

If you have a Walmart with-in driving distance...run over to the sporting goods department and take a look thru it...mine here in St.Louis has had them in stock before...and I tried one...but didn't like it...is was dark...and fuzzy around the edges...it probably was just that paticular scope...lots of guys have them a really like them...

Mac11700 You are correct sir(and you are not to far from me about 10 miles) The Older 6x18 banner scopes I have one are somewhat brighter but in the center if you are lined up it is still very clear in the 6x24's. The edges are foggy kind of what I see when I use a ghost ring rear sight.

By all means go to W mart and look through the scopes. If you are getting this scope for 50 it ain't a bad deal at all.

Those of you who said about the scope not letting light through and that type of thing....Does that happen more so at the higher magnifications? Probably the only time I would put it on 20-24x would be at the range or shooting woodchucks. Any low light hunting I'm sure I probably wouldn't go over 10-12x.

Yup, that would be true, and more so on low cost scopes, but even expensive scopes will dim some on high power, it's just the nature of light transmission and magnification. I've got a Japanese built 20-60x60 Redfield spotting scope that I paid $500 for 15yrs ago, it's a fantastic scope, but on 45-60 power, it'd better be mid day with bright sun, or it will just get dimmer and dimmer as the power goes past 40x and on up. With the zoom lense, it's real easy to see the effects of magnification on light transmisson.

I have two Bushnell Banners (1.5-4.5 x 32 and 4-12 x 40) and I will say that they collect excellent light. Hec, I have use the 32mm OBJ for night hunting. I have a friend that has a 6-24 x 40 one his calling rifle and I think it colects more than enough light on 24x in daylight. Not at dawn or dusk, but daytime shooting. Any scope will loose light the higher in power it goes.
