« on: March 07, 2005, 04:52:18 PM »
I am a total newbie to TC, but I know I want a TC rifle in .375JDJ, but my dealer can't advise which frame to get. He hasn't a clue.
Please explain the difference in these different model.

Contender, Encore or G2???

The Encore gives you pretty much everything that the Contender and G2 do plus it is available in larger rifle calibers and muzzleloading options.

As far as difference, I think the major difference is the the Encore has a beefier frame and can handle the larger calibers.

Thanks Big Dog. But if I didn't care about the muzzle loading which would suit best, especially with the .375JDJ?

If you are buying new, the G2 or encore are your 2 options. The contender is the older version of the G2. G2 and contenders aren't identical, and there are pros and cons to each. Barrels are interchangable between the 2. The main advantages of the contender/G2 over the encore is that they are lighter and can more easily convert to rimfire calibers. The encore, like K9 said will handle the higher pressure rounds like the 308 and 30-06 family. Any of the 3 will handle the 375JDJ.

375 for Contender

I believe the 375 JDJ was originally intended for the Contender, but if you are getting it in a rifle form then I suggest the Encore.  It's a little heavier, and you'll probably want any extra weight for the recoil.  With 270 gr bullets it packs quite a punch.  My 14" Contender barrel is extremely accurate with 270's, but I don't shoot full loads in it, and mine has a break.

According to SSK industries, the 375 JDJ is loaded to 42K psi.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I got me 2 contender frames, many barrels including a 14 inch 209x50 and 14 inch 375 jdj.
I am now working to get my first encore.  I got to jump trough a lot of hoops and spend a lot of extra money to get it. (Thanks people's republic of Maryland)

I want mostly want it for the muzzle loading barrel. That is the only barrel I can deer hunt with in my part of MD. I am also going to get a 17 HM2 with a rim fire adapter.

I think it will turn into my main hunting handgun.

You can get any caliber for the contender chambered in the encore then about 100 more.
