Another Happy NEw Tarus Owner

Greetings GBO folks....

I needed a web resource for my first handgun purchase, and Google brought me here!

I bought my first firearm (without my Pop's help) this past weekend, and am happy to be a proud owner of a Taurus Model 66 .357 Magnum (Stainless).  Shot it briefly right after buying it with standard 158 gr .38 specials (Magtech), and can't complain about out of the box accuracy.  

Can't wait to shoot more rounds through her and find out what she likes best!

Well, just wanted to say hello and I look forward to forum'ing with you all in the future.

Welcome Dan. I am considering a Taurus myself actually, a Tracker in 218 Bee or a Model 17. Haven't decided yet. You'll find this(GBO) to be the place to be for discussions on firearms. I'm assuming from your post that your Taurus is your first handgun purchase. Congratulations! Wait until you start reloading, then the fun really begins. Save your money because your sport will get expensive but it's well worth it.

Yea this is my first handgun.  I also co-own a 30-30 Winchester Model 94 that I got when I was 15 for Whitetail with my dad.  

I finally graduated from college and can afford to pursue my sports a little more.  Thus, the Taurus.  

My pops just started reloading for his Ruger Bisley .44 Magnum, so that comes next for me most likely (reloading).  

Plans for the next few years are for an Autoloading Shotgun (Beretta looks good now), surplus or remake M14, and a Kimber 1911.  

Oh, and I gotta join the NRA!   :twisted:

Congrats and welcome to the site...Let us know how things go with that gun.  Looks like you need to purchase some dies and set them up on your fathers reloading set and get cracking...Good luck.

I too got a new .357 model 66 Taurus in satin stainless 6" barrel late last fall for deer hunting here in Iowa.  Opportunity never presented itself to harvest one with it last season.  I have thought about reloading my own ammo also.  I have never reloaded handgun rounds before.  Is it much different than rifle?  Be interesting to read how it works out for you.  It's fun to practice shooting at targets at different distances.  I just shoot .38 special with 130 gr. FMJ for practice, and .357 with 185 gr. HP for the deer.  Next season I hope to tag a deer with the handgun.  I look forward to reading more of your posts on how you're doing with shooting and reloading.
