I've got both, the 25-06 is the better deer caliber, but with the right bullet, the 243 will work fine. My 243 shoots the 100gr rem corlokts real well but the Federal 100gr Power Shok shoots best, most find that the 85-95gr bullets shoot best, it's just a matter of finding the right combination that works. My 25-06 is real accurate with the 115gr Federal NP and the 117gr Hornady BTSP, shooting sub moa 100yd 3-shot groups. The Ultras are a bit heavier with the resin laminated stock, will reduce recoil but make for a heavier carry rifle. Recoil for the 243 is probably not an issue but the 25-06 may be uncomfortable for the Mrs.
