338-06 Questions

I am thinking about rebarreling a M-700 ADL  to 338-06. Can anyone talk me into or out of this caliber. Sounds like a good cartridge. Your input is appreciated....

I just built one on a VZ24 mauser action.

Looked at all the other alternatives and came up with enough facts to do this caliber.

Beats the Whelen, doesn't beat you as bad as the 338 mag, lots of bullets, good velocities, superb accuracy with anything you shoot.

You'll love it.

Tim
I have a friend that has been using the 338-06 for years now and swears by it.  He has taken more mosse, elk and bear then I like to give him credit for.   The past January three buddies and I did a late season cow elk hunt in UT.  We took two elk with a 300WSM and two with the 338-06.  It did an outstanding job on the two elk shot.  I just recently picked up a pre 64 model 70 in 30-06 that I am going to have bored out and rechambered to 338-06.  My buddies gun was a Ruger that he did the same thing too.  Recoil is much milder that 338.  And with 225 Barnes XLC he is getting 2770 FPS.  Its not a cheap proposition but if you can afford it I think it is a great gun.  I decided on the 338-06 over the 35 Whelen for most of thesames resons as others better bullet selection and better velocity.
